Comic Josh Johnson<\/a> said his first HBO special, \u201cSymphony<\/a>,\u201d puts \u201cme in a place where I now have another bar to set for myself and try to reach even higher.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n But Johnson\u2019s day job as a correspondent and rotating host on \u201cThe Daily Show\u201d sometimes has him going lower.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Asked by celebrity.land on Tuesday if he had a recent joke about President Donald Trump<\/a> that was just \u201ctoo much\u201d to air, he thought for a moment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIt was during the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner episode that I did,\u201d he said, referring to the April event where a shooter was arrested and charged with attempting to assassinate Trump.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The joke, he said, went something to the effect of: \u201cIt\u2019s like, there have been enough attempts that people have questioned if they\u2019re fake<\/a> to the point where he really is the boy who cried shot.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cYeah, didn\u2019t make it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n That kind of material has often led to extreme consequences in the Trump era and spurred debate about free speech. Just ask Jimmy Kimmel. His throwaway line that Melania Trump<\/a> was an \u201cexpectant widow\u201d days before the incident prompted Trump\u2019s call to have him removed from the air again.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think that they have noticed me,\u201d Johnson said of Trump and his MAGA acolytes. \u201cI really don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Given the fierce applause at a New York City screening of \u201cSymphony,\u201d Johnson\u2019s storytelling punctuated by live music will likely get him noticed further by fans. The performer begged the audience to keep a lid on the content until it premieres Friday on HBO. So we\u2019ll leave it at that. (It will also stream on HBO Max.) <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Johnson said he keeps his club-gig muscles toned by performing on weekends. His Comedy Band Camp<\/a> tour revs up in June.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In the meantime, he has plenty to keep him busy on the political front for \u201cThe Daily Show.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Johnson said if Trump weren\u2019t occupying so much bandwidth, he\u2019d like to zero in on California Gov.
