The Smashing Pumpkins<\/a> recently reunited with \u201990s alt-rock hero Butch Vig<\/a> in the studio for the first time since their Siamese Dream<\/em><\/a> sessions over 30 years ago, Billy Corgan<\/a> has revealed.<\/p>\n

During a May 19th Substack livestream<\/a>, Corgan announced that he and fellow Pumpkins James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin recorded \u201cone song\u201d with producer Vig behind the boards that is \u201c98% done,\u201d with the intention of releasing it sometime this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve just recorded one song,\u201d Corgan said, taking his time to tease the announcement. \u201cIt\u2019s for a specific purpose, which I can\u2019t give that part out\u2026 I haven\u2019t come up with a title yet, honestly. The plan is the song will be released this year. I can\u2019t say exactly when. There\u2019s reasons for that\u2026 The song is really cool. It\u2019s basically done recording. I\u2019d say there\u2019s a couple little things left. I\u2019d say it\u2019s 98% done.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Pumpkins worked with Vig on their first two studio albums, 1991\u2019s\u00a0Gish<\/em><\/a> and 1993 breakout\u00a0Siamese Dream<\/em>.<\/p>\n

When asked whether The Smashing Pumpkins will debut the song on their upcoming fall Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness<\/em> 30th anniversary tour<\/a>, Corgan said there was a \u201ctiming issue\u201d and expressed doubt they would premiere the track before it drops.<\/p>\n

Each night of \u201cThe Rats in a Cage Tour\u201d promises one set of\u00a0Mellon Collie<\/em> songs alongside a second set featuring hits and deep cuts from the band\u2019s discography. Tickets for the trek, which kicks off this fall, go on sale beginning on\u00a0Thursday, May 21st at 10:00 a.m. local time through Ticketmaster<\/a>.<\/p>\n
