Smashing Pumpkins<\/a> have announced they have reunited with Butch Vig<\/a> for a new song that\u2019s \u201c98 per cent done\u201d \u2013 and on its way soon.<\/p>\n The Garbage<\/a> drummer and co-producer is famed for his work on several classic 1990s records, including Nirvana<\/a> (\u2018Nevermind\u2019), Sonic Youth<\/a> (\u2018Dirty\u2019, \u2018Experimental Jet Set\u2019, \u2018Trash and No Star\u2019) and, of course, the Pumpkins themselves, who worked with Vig for their first two albums, 1991\u2019s \u2018Gish\u2019 and 1993\u2019s \u2018Siamese Dream\u2019.<\/p>\n Now, Billy Corgan<\/a> and co. are set to team up with Vig over 30 years later for a brand new song. The frontman shared the news on a Substack livestream<\/a> on Tuesday (May 19), saying the track was \u201c98 per cent\u201d done.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve just recorded one song,\u201d Corgan said on the livestream. \u201cIt\u2019s for a specific purpose, which I can\u2019t give that part out\u2026 I haven\u2019t come up with a title yet, honestly. The plan is the song will be released this year. I can\u2019t say exactly when. There\u2019s reasons for that\u2026 The song is really cool. It\u2019s basically done recording. I\u2019d say there\u2019s a couple little things left. I\u2019d say it\u2019s 98% done.\u201d<\/p>\n However, Corgan cautioned that the track was not likely to be performed on the Pumpkins\u2019 upcoming \u2018Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness\u2019 anniversary tour<\/a> due to a \u201ctiming issue\u201d.<\/p>\n
