\u201cLonely\u201d singer Akon <\/b>practices polyamory<\/a> and has multiple wives.<\/p>\n

\u201cPolyamory is a natural behavior for men,\u201d Akon, 53, said on the Tuesday, May 19, episode of the \u201cWe Need to Talk\u201d podcast<\/span><\/a>. \u201cNow, because of the rules that [are] set around us, we control that behavior to, you can say, appease our partner because of the same rules that we\u2019re living by and that we\u2019re, you can say, agreeing upon.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cWhen you\u2019re single, it\u2019s not a problem. It\u2019s only when you are attached or you\u2019ve promised someone that this is a relationship that we\u2019re supposed to hold in the rules that you decide to hold it in.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked how many wives he has, Akon (real name Aliaune Thiam) succinctly said, \u201cI\u2019ll just leave that to your imagination.\u201d He added, \u201cIt\u2019s entertainment,\u201d after being questioned about having more spouses than the Senegalese president. (Bassirou Diomaye Faye<\/b>, the leader of the Republic of Senegal, has two wives of his own.)<\/p>\n

The \u201cSo Sick\u201d crooner (real name Shaffer Chimere Smith) first went public with his polyamorous relationship in early 2025, introducing girlfriends Arielle Hill, Moneii and Cristina to the world. While playing coy about his relationships, Akon did offer insight into his home life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got the most amazing kids. I got nine altogether<\/a>. Seven boys and two girls, and the setup all depends on the person and the understanding,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s communication. It\u2019s literally the answer and the solution. You got to be mature enough to know that, \u2018If this is the situation that I\u2019m going to park in, I have to communicate.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Among Akon\u2019s relationship rules, his wives cannot have other partners and he lists his first wife as his emergency contact \u201cno matter what.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat one is the reason you even got one, two or three. She\u2019s the queen,\u201d he stated. \u201cNobody violates Wife No. 1. The moment they violate, [they are] out the door. \u2026 There\u2019s levels in the end, like, she\u2019s the one that\u2019s actually sacrificing in the end. With new people [joining] your family, there\u2019s going to be new attitudes, new mindsets, new behaviors and [the first wife has] to deal with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Akon also shut down any critics of his lifestyle during the candid conversation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re going to do it, be honest about it,\u201d he said. \u201cThe problem is [a] majority of the critics are hypocritical because they\u2019re saying that this ain\u2019t right, but yet they\u2019re doing it. There\u2019s not a person, I promise you, that ever critiqued anything that I\u2019ve ever said that if I went and did a background check on them right now or hired a private investigator that I wouldn\u2019t find nothing. That\u2019s just being real, right?\u201d<\/p>\n
