Nearly two decades after one of the mid-2000s\u2019 most high-profile breakups, Sheryl Crow<\/b><\/a> and Lance Armstrong<\/b><\/a> have addressed their breakup that coincided with Crow\u2019s cancer battle.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was engaged, I had three beautiful stepchildren, I wanted to have kids with this person. We split in the same week \u2026 I got diagnosed with breast cancer,\u201d Crow shared on \u201cThe BobbyCast\u201d podcast<\/span><\/a> in May 2026. \u201c[Then] I found out he was seeing a really famous actress. \u2026 I really felt like I went through about nine months of radiation and grieving and anger.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cI had a really stoic oncologist who literally looked like my grandmother. One of the things that she said to me was like, \u2018I\u2019ve had a thousand women come through with breast cancer. Don\u2019t miss out on the lesson.\u2019 I realized, having gone through all that, that I am a caretaker. I\u2019m the last person I take care of.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an April 2025 Variety<\/i> profile<\/span><\/a>, Crow reflected the convergence of heartbreak and illness prompted her 2007 move to Tennessee.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think having come out of a relationship where I thought I was gonna be married and was close to the kids that were gonna be my stepkids, then got diagnosed \u2014 all three of those things made me reassess,\u201d she said. \u201cI just looked at it and thought, \u2018I want to put down roots; I want to have a family.\u2019 My sisters live here, and my family all live within three hours, and I just decided to start phase two.\u201d<\/p>\n

Armstrong has shared his own version of events over the years.<\/p>\n

In a March 2017 sit-down with Howard Stern<\/b><\/span><\/a>, the former cyclist called his relationship with Crow \u201ca good ride\u201d and described the musician as \u201ca great partner.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s tough to pull it off,\u201d he said of being half of a high-wattage Hollywood pairing. \u201cI mean, how many couples have been able to pull it off?\u201d<\/p>\n

In his book Lance<\/i>, Armstrong also pinned the split on mismatched timelines around starting a family.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe wanted marriage, she wanted children; and not that I didn\u2019t want that, but I didn\u2019t want that at that time because I had just gotten out of a marriage, I\u2019d just had kids,\u201d he wrote. \u201cYet we\u2019re up against her biological clock \u2014 that pressure is what cracked it.\u201d<\/p>\n
