\u201cLate Night\u201d host Seth Meyers<\/a> got real about his feelings about Stephen Colbert<\/a>\u2019s exit from late-night ahead of the final episode of \u201cThe Late Show\u201d on Thursday. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019m heartbroken,\u201d Meyers host told Deadline on Wednesday<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s very sad to lose a colleague and even sadder to lose a time slot.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cIt would be one thing if Stephen was leaving and a younger person was getting a chance to have one of these jobs that are \u2014 as someone who\u2019s experienced it\u2014 so exciting to have,\u201d Meyers continued. \u201cSo just in general, I think it\u2019s a very sad week for television in America.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Colbert will wrap his 11-year run on the \u201cLast Show\u201d on Thursday night after CBS abruptly announced the cancellation of his show last July. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Despite being on different networks \u2014 CBS for Colbert and NBC for Meyers \u2014 the pair have regarded each other more as colleagues rather than competitors. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The network claimed the cancellation was \u201cpurely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night,\u201d but many speculated it was political, given Colbert\u2019s frequent criticism of President Donald Trump<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

CBS\u2019s announcement came just days after Colbert called Paramount settling a lawsuit with Trump a \u201cbig, fat bribe.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cAs someone who has always been a proud employee of this network, I\u2019m offended, and I don\u2019t know if anything will ever repair my trust in this company,\u201d Colbert said at the time. \u201cI believe this kind of complicated financial settlement with a sitting government official has a technical name in legal circles: it\u2019s Big Fat Bribe.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Colbert\u2019s time slot will temporarily be occupied by \u201cComics Unleashed with Byron Allen.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
