Thursday will be Stephen Colbert\u2019s last appearance<\/a> behind his desk at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City.<\/p>\n The 62-year-old comedian, Catholic and South Carolinian has poked fun at just about everything under the sun, but Seattle has provided Colbert with material on several occasions.<\/p>\n Remember that blistering heat wave in 2021 when temperatures hit 108 degrees? Well, it was so hot that it killed Kelsey Grammer\u2019s radio psychiatrist Frasier Crane, of the hit Seattle-set show \u201cFrasier,\u201d on a \u201cThe Late Show\u201d sketch that June.<\/p>\n A sun blazed through the Seattle skyline on the iconic \u201cFrasier\u201d title card to reveal Frasier and Peri Gilpin\u2019s Roz Doyle slumped over in the radio booth while someone calls in screaming \u201cI\u2019m melting! I\u2019m melting!\u201d like the Wicked Witch of the West.<\/p>\n \u201cIt’s so bad in Seattle, everyone is down to their flannel speedos,” Colbert joked in his monologue<\/a>.\u00a0The Seattle Times cannot confirm that didn’t happen anywhere in the city.<\/p>\n Colbert also took a swipe at the Space Needle on its 60th birthday in 2022 when a contest was being held to select five people to paint the pointy landmark\u2019s roof<\/a> “Galaxy Gold,\u201d its original color upon debuting at the Seattle World\u2019s Fair in 1962.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThe winners will get to help repaint the Space Needle roof,\u201d Colbert said. \u201cOr, you could not enter<\/a>, and win an even more exciting prize: not painting the Space Needle’s roof.”\u00a0<\/p>\n Let\u2019s assume that was a dig at the dangerousness of the task, not at the … much loved … orange-ish color. Colbert has acknowledged his fear of heights<\/a>, after all.<\/p>\n Space Needle leadership said Colbert didn\u2019t win the contest (because he didn\u2019t enter), but told the comedian there\u2019s a harness with his name on it<\/a> if he happens to visit.\u00a0<\/p>\n Speaking of landmarks, Colbert recreated his \u201clifelong dream\u201d of salmon-tossing a la Pike Place Market by throwing a salmon back and forth in the hallways<\/a> of Washington, D.C.\u2019s Capitol Hill with then-Rep. Jim McDermott of Washington Congressional District 7, which includes Seattle.<\/p>\n Colbert, who at the time was playing a smug conservative commentator on Comedy Central\u2019s \u201cThe Colbert Report,\u201d not only whacked the fish with a baseball bat but also asked McDermott if \u201cyou like big butts.\u201d<\/p>\n Unlike the salmon, McDermott didn\u2019t catch the Sir Mix-A-Lot reference<\/a>, telling Colbert, \u201cI\u2019m not quite sure what you\u2019re driving at with that question.\u201d<\/p>\n Seattle headlines also made their way to Colbert\u2019s desk in 2023 when Swifties stomped out the equivalent of a 2.3 magnitude earthquake<\/a> during Taylor Swift\u2019s Eras Tour performance at Lumen Field. Colbert, a self-proclaimed Swiftie<\/a>, marveled that her fans \u201cregistered on the Richter scale<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n A few Seattle signature businesses and billionaires also caught some of Colbert\u2019s jokes.<\/p>\n When Starbucks launched an app allowing customers to order ahead in 2016, The Wall Street Journal reported that people missed baristas misspelling their names<\/a>. Colbert joked, \u201cStarbucks\u2019 greatest strength has always been being bad at names<\/a>. This is the company that named their shortest drink \u2018tall.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n It doesn\u2019t seem like former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz was being quirky when he called Seattle\u2019s business climate \u201chostile\u201d and \u201csocialist rhetoric<\/a>,\u201d however.<\/p>\n Oh, how a Starbucks barista might\u2019ve misspelled those words.<\/p>\n Colbert also described Jeff Bezos \u201clike the underbelly of a hairless cat<\/a>, like Lex Luthor but he knows more about you and he\u2019s less trustworthy,\u201d to then-Presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren during a guessing game in 2020. He did, however, encourage college graduates to \u201cget Amazon Prime\u201d during a commencement speech sketch<\/a> four years earlier.<\/p>\n The final episode of \u201cThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert\u201d will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ at 11:35 p.m.<\/p>\n
