When Dexys Midnight Runners reformed a couple of decades ago, they pointedly distanced themselves from their original incarnation by renaming themselves as Dexys.<\/p>\n
But for their upcoming new album LOVE<\/em>, the band have reverted to their original name, while suggesting that this could be their swansong.<\/p>\n“LOVE<\/em>, Dexys Midnight Runners latest, possibly last ever album, is a luminous collection of scenes and reckonings,” said the band.<\/p>\n“Stories of family and friends, tales from past and present. All drawn from Kevin Rowland\u2019s life, each an individual jewel, threaded together with love.”<\/p>\n
Produced by David Holmes, the album is released in a variety of physical and digital formats on September 4, 2026 via Heavenly Recordings.<\/p>\n
It is led by ‘My Life In England Pt. 1, a reworking of a song previously released on 2003 compilation Let’s Make This Precious: The Best of Dexys Midnight Runners.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

\n\n\n<\/svg>“I don\u2019t remember when it happened, but I just thought, ‘Hang on, these are all love songs, of different kinds’,\u201d said Kevin Rowland of the new album.<\/p>\n
“I knew then: Call it LOVE<\/em>. Everyone came at this project with love.”<\/p>\nOf the decision to return to their original name, he added: “We realised a couple of years ago that some young people know Dexys Midnight Runners from ‘Geno’ and ‘Come On Eileen’, but some that we spoke to, were confused by the name, Dexys.<\/p>\n\n\n Dexys Midnight Runners – LOVE.<\/p>\nPicture:

“And some, thought Dexys was a different outfit to Dexys Midnight Runners.<\/p>\n
“Since Dexys returned in 2012, we’ve always felt what we do is worthy of a young audience, so it was a no brainer to revert to Dexys Midnight Runners.”<\/p>\n
