Prince William<\/a> has said his family \u201ccouldn\u2019t cope\u201d without his wife, Catherine, as he said he is \u201cso proud\u201d of her return to full-scale duties following her cancer ordeal. William paid a personal tribute to the princess during an appearance on Heart radio\u2019s breakfast show<\/a> this morning, describing her as \u201can amazing mum and an amazing wife\u201d.<\/p>\n The future king appeared live on the breakfast show, broadcast from a cafe on the Isles of Scilly, alongside hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden<\/a>. In a wide-ranging interview, William joked about the chaotic school run, a potential invite to Taylor Swift\u2019s wedding, his love of dance music and was asked to settle the great scone debate<\/a>.<\/p>\n Settling down with a cup of builder\u2019s tea, the prince described how \u201cvery, very proud\u201d he was of the Princess of Wales\u2019s successful visit to Italy last week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cShe\u2019s been amazing,\u201d he said. \u201cShe\u2019s been through so much in the last couple of years, particularly. She\u2019d been looking forward to the Italian trip a lot, and so I\u2019m really glad it went really well. William added: \u201cShe came back buzzing.\u201d<\/p>\n Catherine received a rapturous welcome from the people of the Italian city of Reggio Emilia, where she learnt about an innovative approach to teaching young children pioneered in the city over two days.<\/p>\n An aide to the princess last week described the trip as a \u201chuge moment\u201d for the princess, who was diagnosed with cancer at the start of 2024 and underwent six months of gruelling chemotherapy. It marked her first overseas tour since the health scare, and she hopes to undertake further trips this year.<\/p>\n Reflecting on her visit to Italy last week, Jamie said to the prince: “It must have been a difficult time back then with the kids as well and seeing her fulfill those duties must have made you very happy.”<\/p>\n “Yeah, very much so,” William replied. “She’s an amazing mum and an amazing wife and literally our family couldn’t cope without her. So she has been absolutely stunning, really has.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n He said his wife is \u201cedging herself back\u201d into doing more overseas visits following her successful cancer treatment, but cautioned royal trips take their toll, so they have to \u201cmake sure she\u2019s OK and rested\u201d.<\/p>\n Having reflected on how exhausting foreign trips can be, Amanda piped in and said: “You have to balance it with maybe a glass of wine and some pasta on the sly. I’m hoping she grabbed that.” Laughing, William said: “We all need a glass of wine every now and again, Amanda.”<\/p>\n The prince took part in the interview ahead of his visit to the Isles of Scilly Hospital to meet staff and patients, and to open a new facility that has increased medical capacity for the Isles.<\/p>\n The lighthearted conversation saw him reflect on his childhood memories coming here with his parents and now carries on that tradition with his own children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, eight.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a place like no other,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of a different world down here, it\u2019s beautiful\u2026 The beaches are amazing; you can see the water is crystal clear. I mean, there is so much to do down here as a family. It\u2019s fantastic!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Discussing the chaos of the morning school run, the prince admitted that it can be difficult getting everyone out of the house on time with the right kit, something every parent can sympathise with.<\/p>\n Addressing his children directly, who he said were tuning in, William said: \u201cCharlotte and Louis, because George is boarding last night, if you’re listening, make sure you’re on time, please. Make sure you’re not fighting over who’s listening to what this morning.\u201d<\/p>\n Asked whether the children were \u201cfiends\u201d for snacks, he added: \u201cYeah, there\u2019s a lot of jam sandwiches taken in the car, usually. Louis will leave jam fingerprints through the car, which is really helpful.\u201d<\/p>\n William made several suggestions for the playlist on Friday morning, including Raye\u2019s \u2018Where is my husband\u2019 and a Taylor Swift song for his daughter, as he admitted that he was \u201choping\u201d for an invite to the pop singer\u2019s wedding to American football star Travis Kelce this summer.<\/p>\n Elsewhere in the 40-minute broadcast, the prince revealed he prepares scones the \u201cDevonian way\u201d, explaining: \u201cI learned from my grandmother, and she would definitely, she would have the cream on first.\u201d<\/p>\n The scone debate remains a topic of contention, with a rivalry between Devon and Cornwall over the correct order of cream and jam.
