President Trump celebrated the end of late-night comedian Stephen Colbert\u2019s decadelong run hosting \u201cThe Late Show\u201d on Thursday evening, after he previously championed Paramount Skydance\u2019s decision to fire<\/a> the comedian.<\/p>\n \u201cColbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long!\u201d Trump wrote early Friday on Truth Social<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cNo talent, no ratings, no life. He was like a dead person,\u201d the president continued. \u201cYou could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he\u2019s finally gone!\u201d<\/p>\n The comedian\u2019s show on CBS was canceled<\/a> last year by Paramount Skydance, then known as Paramount Global, a media conglomerate owned by Trump allies Larry and David Ellison. The president has consistently called<\/a> for Colbert and other late-night TV hosts to be fired for criticism<\/a> of his administration.<\/p>\n The media company cited financial considerations in its decision to cancel<\/a> \u201cThe Late Show.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThis is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night,\u201d the company said in a statement at the time. \u201cIt is not related in any way to the show\u2019s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump responded to this news<\/a> with glee, writing on Truth Social, \u201cI absolutely love that Colbert got fired.\u201d<\/p>\n Critics, however, said the decision was likely influenced<\/a> by the Trump administration\u2019s oversight over last year\u2019s merger<\/a> between Paramount and entertainment giant Skydance and a $16 million settlement<\/a> between CBS and the president over a \u201c60 Minutes\u201d episode featuring former Vice President Kamala Harris.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Late Show\u201d first launched in 1993 with David Letterman as the original host. Colbert took over the broadcast in September 2015.<\/p>\n
