The major and the short form video app famously <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicweek.com\/digital\/read\/with-umg-hitting-back-at-tiktok-over-artist-remuneration-now-the-industry-awaits-an-escalation\/089203\"><span>fell out over licensing terms in early 2024<\/span><\/a><span>, but reached an agreement within months.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>\u201cTikTok will continue to offer its global community access to UMG\u2019s expansive recorded music and publishing catalogue, while fostering deeper engagement between creators and UMG\u2019s artists and songwriters through best-in-class technology and promotional capabilities,\u201d said a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>The Universal-TikTok deal follows the big news yesterday that UMG acts will be part of the launch for a new <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicweek.com\/digital\/read\/spotify-and-umg-unveil-ai-based-paid-add-on-tool-allowing-fans-to-create-covers-and-remixes\/094178\"><span>AI-powered tool as part of a new Spotify subscription tier<\/span><\/a><span>, which will enable fans to create remixes and covers of tracks by participating artists and songwriters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>Building on the previous partnership announced in 2024, the new TikTok deal will further enhance creative and commercial opportunities for UMG\u2019s artists and songwriters through expanded marketing and advertising campaigns, as well as access to e-commerce and other artist-centric tools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>The new deal also extends TikTok and UMG\u2019s commitment to <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicweek.com\/labels\/read\/umg-teams-with-tech-giant-nvidia-on-responsible-ai-for-music\/093313\"><span>AI protections that promote human artistry<\/span><\/a><span> and ensure platform economics effectively flow through to artists and songwriters.
