The roll-out for the new Charli XCX<\/a> album has begun; so far, the singer-songwriter has taken an unorthodox approach, releasing B-sides to the main tracks that are exclusively kept off streaming platforms. Charli has now explained the thought process behind this move.<\/p>\n

Following the release of \u2018SS26\u2019, the second single<\/a> from her upcoming album, the 33-year-old took to Instagram on her second account to explain the peculiar album rollout technique.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to come on here and talk about this account, B-sides,\u201d she began, before adding, \u201cBasically, I made a record<\/a>, and while making a record, I made a few songs that felt like a part of the world of the album, but I kind of knew they weren\u2019t ever going to be on the album.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Essex-born singer went on, \u201cSo, they became the sort of B-sides, I suppose. The things that were close to making it on the album, but are not going to be on there. And also, those songs are coupled with some of the songs that are coming out ahead of the album.\u201d<\/p>\n

She referenced the track released via Instagram on May 9th, \u2018I Keep on Thinking about You Every Single Day and Night\u2019, which was a B-side to the divisive first single<\/a> \u2018Rock Music\u2019, explaining that \u201cthey are paired together because, in ways, they are totally opposite of each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u2018Apple\u2019 performer explained that the \u201cmain point\u201d of the B-sides is therefore their ability to mirror one another. <\/p>\n

She also revealed that she will soon release a B-side to \u2018SS26\u2019, which will be titled \u2018Playboy Bunny\u2019, adding that \u201cthere are sonic things about it that are extremely opposite to \u2018SS26\u2019. That\u2019s what made them a good pair\u201d.<\/p>\n

With all of this said, she explained, \u201cThe B-sides are never going to go on streaming, I don\u2019t think, that could change, but right now I don\u2019t really think\u2026 I really just wanted them to live here, on this account, and then also I will press each B-side to a seven-inch vinyl.\u201d<\/p>\n

Recently, Charli XCX took to social media to share a message with her critics<\/a>, posting on X on May 19th, \u201cI\u2019m not trying to repel people away or convince people to like me. I\u2019m doing what I feel is truthful to me. I think existing as a human being in 2026 is really hard for a multitude of different reasons. My solace is art, but sometimes that doesn\u2019t even really feel safe in this day and age.\u201d<\/p>\n
