Movement runs from Saturday to Monday.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Movement attendees at the Movement Music Festival in Hart Plaza in May 2024. Bars and clubs across the city participate, from Spkrbox to MotorCity Wine to Northern Lights. It\u2019s a fun alternative for those who don\u2019t want to attend the festival or can\u2019t afford to pay the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/movementfestival.com\/tickets\">$227 general admission ticket for Movement.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mayor Mary Sheffield even recognized the significance of Movement and festival-related events by proclaiming May 18-25 as <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/movementdetroit\/posts\/honored-to-receive-this-proclamation-from-our-wonderful-mayor-marysheffield-and-\/1534951561329994\/\">Detroit Techno Week.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two other popular Detroit venues hosting events during Movement weekend are Islandview\u2019s Spot Lite and Corktown\u2019s UFO Bar, both owned by Roula David. Paxahau, the event company behind Movement, is hosting an official opening party at Spot Lite on Friday, along with two after-parties on Saturday and Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UFO is hosting the unofficial pre-party \u201cHold Me\u201d on Friday, and after-parties on Saturday and Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opening party at Spot Lite <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wl.eventim.us\/event\/Barclay-Crenshaw-Official-Opening-Party\/688240?afflky=PaxahauNew\">is $44<\/a>, while the \u201cHold Me\u201d party at UFO <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ra.co\/events\/2434370\">is $22.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">David told BridgeDetroit she\u2019s been working with Paxahau for 15 years, back when she was establishing the now-closed art gallery <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.metrotimes.com\/music-2\/after-10-years-red-bull-arts-detroit-will-host-its-final-exhibition-this-week-28230771\/\">Red Bull Arts Detroit.<\/a> In addition,<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/1xrun\/\">1xRUN,<\/a> the company David runs with her husband, Jesse Cory, offers the Movement Artist In Residence (AIR) program. But due to the pandemic, the festival was scaled down to a<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ra.co\/news\/75381\"> \u201cMicro Movement,\u201d<\/a> with a limited lineup spread across three Detroit venues: Spot Lite, TV Lounge and Magic Stick Alley Deck.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When David became owner of the UFO Bar, formerly UFO Factory,<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/news\/local\/michigan\/detroit\/2024\/06\/11\/ufo-factory-to-reopen-as-ufo-bar\/74062968007\/\"> in 2024,<\/a> she started offering Movement parties there the following year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe just love kicking off the weekend with our friends at Paxahau,\u201d she said. \u201cThis year, (at the opening party) we have Barclay Crenshaw, who also goes by Claude VonStroke. It\u2019s going to be a really fun, bass-heavy, ghetto tech, kind of hip-hop fusion party. One of the biggest themes that we wanted to have this year with the parties was the idea of fun.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to David, one of the best parties of the weekend is where DJ Minx performs. The Detroit artist is part of the lineup for the official Movement closing party at Spot Lite on Memorial Day called <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ra.co\/events\/2436591\">\u201cHouse Your Life.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMinx has her annual party with us,\u201d David said. \u201cIt\u2019s probably the busiest, craziest, wildest party we have, but it\u2019s always super high energy.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile at UFO, the precursor to this weekend\u2019s parties is the event, \u201cPlanet Home: The Soft Launch,\u201d at 4 p.m. Thursday, featuring DJs who left Detroit, came back, or those who never left, David said. The lineup includes 999ADJ, Joshua Orange and Something Blue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During Movement weekend, David is looking forward to seeing friends from out of town, meeting new DJs and the pride Detroiters have in showing off the city to newcomers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat whole combination just makes this week really special for us,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd just watching our teams rally to make this week very beautiful for our guests. The unsung heroes in most of this are the bartenders, the managers, the security; the ones that wish that they were at the party, but actually work the party.
