Hollywood is having its biggest sweaty season since at least 2019, with a much-anticipated release opening almost every single week for the next two months.<\/p>\n<p>And the inventory runs the gamut. Leo Woodall from \u201cThe White Lotus\u201d plays a piano tuning apprentice with a hearing disorder that makes him extremely sensitive to loud noises. That personal difficulty, however, makes him an unmatched expert at cracking safes. Even better, Woodall is under the tutelage of Dustin Hoffman.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The Wayans brothers and Regina Hall are back in the sixth \u201cScary Movie.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cScary Movie\u201d (June 5)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In the 13 years since \u201cScary Movie 5,\u201d the horror genre has totally transformed. The films \u201cGet Out\u201d and \u201cSinners\u201d both won Oscars. Last year\u2019s \u201cWeapons\u201d became a sensation. A stalker named \u201cMa\u201d and a freaky doll called \u201cM3GAN\u201d were inescapable memes. So there is a lot of meat for this old genre parody franchise to gnaw on. And not only are regulars Cheri Oteri, Anna Faris and Regina Hall returning \u2014 this is the first \u201cScary Movie\u201d entry to be written by the Wayans brothers in 25 years. \u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Steven Spielberg returns to his alien roots in \u201cDisclosure Day,\u201d starring Emily Blunt. <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cDisclosure Day\u201d (June 12)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>I was a big fan of \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/09\/11\/the-fabelmans-review-spielbergs-latest-is-the-best-of-the-year\/\">The Fabelmans<\/a>\u201d and a medium fan of \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/02\/west-side-story-review-spielberg-does-decent-job-with-classic\/\">West Side Story<\/a>.\u201d But it\u2019s exciting to see Steven Spielberg return to one of his winningest subjects \u2014 aliens. Of course, it remains to be seen whether he\u2019s got an \u201cE.T.\u201d or an \u201cIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull\u201d on his hands with the new flick starring Emily Blunt and Josh O\u2019Connor. Either way, a totally original Spielberg thriller about the revelation of extraterrestrial life to the global public is enticing.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Buzz Lightyear and Woody have a new for in \u201cToy Story 5\u201d \u2014 a tablet. <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cToy Story 5\u201d (June 19)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Nothing has been easy for Pixar lately. The Disney-owned animation studio\u2019s biggest original hit in 9 years was this year\u2019s \u201cHoppers,\u201d which grossed $385 million \u2014 almost $500 million less than \u201cCoco\u201d in 2017. But \u201cToy Story\u201d is a sure thing. Even if No. 4 <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/06\/13\/review-toy-story-4-is-funny-and-moving-but-its-subpar-pixar\/\">wasn\u2019t on par with the series\u2019 glory days<\/a> \u2014 except hilarious Forky \u2014 it\u2019s always nice to see Woody, Buzz and Mr. Potato Head, who this time have to compete with a high-tech tablet.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Hugh Jackman stars in a darker take on an old hero \u2014 \u201cThe Death of Robin Hood.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of A24<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cThe Death of Robin Hood\u201d (June 19)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A24 is giving us a darker interpretation of the \u201csteal from the rich, give to the poor\u201d hero, who here is haunted by the demons of his past misdeeds. Rob is played by Hugh Jackman. And he\u2019s joined by Jodie Comer and Bill Skarsg\u00e5rd, who will surely go down as the most terrifying Little John of all time.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Milly Alcock plays Supergirl in DC Comics\u2019 latest effort. <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cSupergirl\u201d (June 26)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Color me cautiously optimistic. But last year\u2019s \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/08\/entertainment\/superman-review-does-dc-studios-finally-have-a-hit\/\">Superman<\/a>\u201d with David Corenswet was better than expected as it batted away Zack Snyder\u2019s terrible, gloomy vision for the character and pumped in brightness and fun. Milly Alcock\u2019s Supergirl, Clark Kent\u2019s cousin, was introduced at the end of that, so I\u2019m hoping her standalone movie follows suit \u2014 or, rather, cape.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cThe Invite\u201d is one of the year\u2019s most hilarious movies. <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cThe Invite\u201d (June 26)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>When <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/26\/entertainment\/jaw-dropping-the-invite-with-olivia-wilde-seth-rogen-is-already-the-funniest-movie-of-the-year\/\">I saw Olivia Wilde\u2019s comedy at Sundance<\/a> \u2014 which, for a while, had banned happiness \u2014 it was the hardest I\u2019d laughed in a long time. The set-up is familiar: a boring, stressed-out married couple (Wilde and Seth Rogen) have a more free-spirited pair (Edward Norton and Penelope Cruz) over for a dinner party. Booze is guzzled, pot is smoked. But Wilde\u2019s snappy direction, the script\u2019s wit and the cast\u2019s unique sense of humor make \u201cThe Invite\u201d its own extremely hilarious thing. \u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The minions journey to the 1920s in \u201cMinions &amp; Monsters.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cMinions &amp; Monsters\u201d (July 1)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Minions universe grows ever larger. This time, the funny yellow blobs who speak in Europeanish gibberish go back in time to the 1920s and attempt to find frightening ghouls and creatures to star in their monster movie. So it\u2019s like \u201cShadow of the Vampire,\u201d only, you know, for little kids.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Christopher Nolan follows up the massive hit \u201cOppenheimer\u201d with \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d starring Matt Damon. <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Universal\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cThe Odyssey\u201d (July 17)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Christopher Nolan is a true Hollywood anomaly. None \u2014 none! \u2014 of our other greatest living directors <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/07\/19\/oppenheimer-review-christopher-nolans-masterpiece\/\">could take on the story of the scientist <\/a>who invented the atomic bomb and make a near-billion-dollar-grossing hit out of it. His take on the epic Greek tale of gods and monsters, with megawatt stars such as Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron, promises to be even grander.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Tom Holland as Spider-Man. <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0(July 31)<\/h2>\n<p>Even as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has struggled, one galaxy is still blazing \u2014 the reliably fun Tom Holland \u201cSpider-Man\u201d movies. \u201cBrand New Day\u201d will start on a note of seriousness though. Five years ago, \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/14\/spider-man-no-way-home-review-mcu-movie-will-shock-fans\/\">No Way Home<\/a>\u201d ended with a sad death and all of Peter Parker\u2019s friends, including Zendaya\u2019s MJ, having forgotten that he ever existed.
