Rylan Clark<\/a> has said that he\u2019s found it \u201creally tough\u201d when one of his celebrity friends has been \u201ccancelled\u201d \u2013 just months after his former Eurovision coverage co-host Scott Mills was fired by the BBC. <\/p>\n

Clark, 37, opened up about cancel culture on ITV\u2019s The Assembly<\/a>, which aired on Sunday (24 May) and sees neurodivergent people conduct interviews with well-known British figures. <\/p>\n

While Clark did not mention any particular celebrities who had been \u201ccancelled\u201d on the show, the episode aired just months after Mills\u2019 contract with the BBC was terminated following allegations about his personal conduct<\/a>. It is unknown whether the episode was filmed before or after Mills\u2019 firing. <\/p>\n

When asked by a participant how he copes when one of his \u201ccelebrity friends is cancelled\u201d, Clark said: \u201cIt\u2019s really tough.\u201d<\/p>\n

Becoming emotional, he continued: \u201cEspecially because some of them are not just my work friends \u2013 they\u2019re genuinely, like, close friends.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the day, if someone\u2019s done something wrong, then I understand why they can\u2019t carry on doing what they\u2019re doing.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I do feel today that we live in a world where people will wanna go for you and cancel you for the sake of just doing it, because they can.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then urged them not to \u201calways believe what you hear or read\u201d, adding: \u201cDon\u2019t be frightened to ask why.\u201d <\/p>\n

Wiping his eyes, Clark said: \u201cGod, this is like a lucky dip. You just don\u2019t know what\u2019s coming next, do you?\u201d<\/p>\n

While Clark didn\u2019t name anyone in particular in his answer, he worked closely with Mills at the BBC \u2013 with the duo providing commentary for the Eurovision Song Contest together. <\/p>\n

Mills was sacked by the BBC in March, with the corporation later confirming that it \u201cacted decisively\u201d after receiving \u201cnew information\u201d about a police investigation into the presenter that took place in 2017. Mills had been investigated by the Metropolitan Police in 2016 over allegations of sexual serious offences involving a teenage boy under 16 between 1997 and 2000. <\/p>\n

He was questioned under caution by officers in 2018, however the investigation was dropped after the Crown Prosecution Service said that \u201cthe evidential threshold had not been met to bring charges\u201d.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in his episode of The Assembly, Clark spoke about the end of his marriage<\/a> to ex husband Dan Neal, saying: \u201cI never think about him [Neal].<\/p>\n

\u201cI miss feeling like I\u2019ve got it all. I thought I had life done. I\u2019ve got the job, I\u2019ve got the family, I\u2019ve got the marriage, I\u2019ve got the car, I\u2019ve got the house. I thought I had it sussed. I didn\u2019t have anything sussed. I didn\u2019t know what was a real relationship.<\/p>\n
