The Yellowstone Ranch lives! After threatening to sell<\/a> the property in Marshals<\/em><\/a> episode 12, Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes<\/a>) spends the first bit of the finale telling prospective buyer Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey) that he simply can\u2019t let go of East Camp. Sure, he\u2019s experienced a lot of darkness in the little slice of the Yellowstone Ranch that he has left, but \u201ccome spring, the grass will grow, and this ranch will be full of life\u201d he says. \u201cMy life\u2019s been defined by losing the things I love. East Camp\u2019s one thing I can hold on to.\u201d<\/p>\n

Honestly, I wouldn\u2019t have faulted Kayce for wanting to move on. Change is hard, yes, but it\u2019s not like Kayce had to leave Montana. (Even if Yellowstone <\/em>fans would have loved to see him work with Beth and Rip on Dutton Ranch<\/em><\/a>\u2014two characters who chose to move on from their family\u2019s legacy so much that they ended up in Texas.) Still, it made sense when Weaver said that it would probably do Kayce some good to relieve the pain of this ranch on his heart.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s good that he didn\u2019t, though. The big twist at the end of the Marshals <\/em>finale reveals that Tom Weaver is the mastermind behind damn near all the criminal activity in the first season. Why? Well, that\u2019s a little harder to explain. But in an ending reminiscent of the Yellowstone <\/em>season 3 finale, Weaver orchestrates an attack on nearly every single character. Whether it\u2019s just a great cliff-hanger, or whether the actors haven\u2019t signed contracts to keep them on past the finale just yet, it\u2019s possible that Marshals <\/em>season 2<\/a> will look a hell of a lot different when we return. It\u2019s all-out war in Montana now, and not everyone will make it out alive.<\/p>\n

So, let\u2019s break down where everyone\u2019s story leaves off in the Marshals <\/em>finale below.<\/p>\n

Kayce Dutton<\/h2>\n

After turning down Tom Weaver\u2019s offer for East Camp, the rival rancher returns to Kayce\u2019s home with his daughter, Dolly Weaver (Ellyn Jameson), who\u2019s been acting as a honeypot in her father\u2019s bid for the ranch. The two go on a ride around camp as Tom takes Kayce\u2019s son Tate (Brecken Merrill) on a fishing trip. Are either of them safe, or will season 2 kick off with Tom kidnapping Tate and Dolly trying to take out Kayce? Who knows! I can understand that Tom is disappointed that Kayce refused to sell, but how is it connected to the assassination attempt on Chairman Rainwater (Gil Birmingham)? Is it enough to murder Kayce and his son, and does Dolly know what her father is planning? I have a lot <\/em>of questions about Weaver\u2019s motivations when we return.<\/p>\n

Thomas Rainwater<\/h2>\n

In Marshals <\/em>season 1, just about every kind of crime imaginable ran through the Brock Rock reservation. Criminals peddled fentanyl, human trafficking, and started a war over mining rights. Then, in the finale, a squad of hired guns attempted to assassinate Rainwater at East Camp. If Weaver is the mastermind behind all this, I doubt it\u2019s his last attempt on Rainwater\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s next for Ash Santos?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Andrea Cruz<\/h2>\n

Andrea (Ash Santos) was originally working with a team in Washington D.C. before she was reassigned to Montana. So, she reveals in the finale that her time in Montana is up. She\u2019s heading back to D.C. Afte saying farewell to everyone on the Marshals <\/em>team, she packs up her locker and departs. It\u2019s a shame, because I thought her and Kayce had a lot more chemistry together than Kayce and Dolly. But the writers threw us a curveball when Andrea hooked up with Garrett (Riley Green) instead. Then, they wrote off Garrett too. Possibly, Marshals <\/em>just didn\u2019t know what else to do with Andrea.<\/p>\n

Is Logan Marshall-Green leaving?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Cal and Belle<\/h2>\n

As the two teammates investigate a lead at the end of the finale, Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) and Belle (Arielle Kebbel) discover that they\u2019re late to the scene. They peer through the trailer\u2019s window and spot that their lead is already dead. Tom Weaver\u2019s foreman pulls out of the driveway as two shooters fire away at the two U.S. Marshals. Though they\u2019ll likely both survive the hit, it\u2019s a bold move from Weaver\u2019s camp. We\u2019ll have to wait until season 2 to find out who makes it out alive. All of them, probably. Logan Marshall-Green has Marshal<\/em> in his name, after all. But what is Weaver\u2019s plan here? Why risk murdering an entire team of U.S. Marshals?<\/p>\n

Marshals <\/em>hasn\u2019t been a series that makes a lot of sense so far, but the show has plenty of explaining to do when we come back for season 2.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
