\n\tThe American Music Awards<\/a> may have been taking place in Las Vegas, but Sombr<\/a> paid inadvertent tribute on Monday night to his hometown of New York City \u2014 which was drenched with rain for most of Memorial Day weekend \u2014\u00a0by performing a high-powered version of his hit \u201cHomewrecker\u201d that climaxed with a full-on onstage downpour.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe singer, clad in leather bell-bottoms and a loose black button-down shirt (different from the outfit he wore to accept his Best Alternative\/Rock Song award for \u201cBack to Friends\u201d just a few minutes earlier), lit up the AMAs stage with his high-powered performance of the song, which he also performed at the BRIT Awards<\/a> earlier in the year. The song, released back in February and likely to be included on his sophomore album expected later in the year, is also nominated for the Song of the Summer AMA Awards.<\/p>\n

\n\tSombr is coming off a red-hot year that saw his singles \u201cUndressed,\u201d \u201cBack to Friends\u201d and \u201c12 to 12\u201d impact the charts. Earlier this year performed at the Grammy Awards, where he was nominated for best new artist alongside Addison Rae, Alex Warren, the Mar\u00edas, Leon Thomas, Lola Young, Katseye and Olivia Dean, who ended up taking home the award.<\/p>\n

\n\tOf his sudden rise to fame, Sombr, age 20, told Variety<\/em> in an episode of\u00a0Behind the Song <\/a>last year. \u201cI went to bed just a normal high school kid and I wake up the next day, it\u2019s viral. Literally the next day. Every record label is in my inbox.\u201d Months earlier, he had been sending songs to labels with no responses at all. When he told his father what was happening, \u201che was like, \u2018I don\u2019t believe you.\u2019\u201d But it was real. Within days Sombr was on a plane to Los Angeles signing his first record deal.<\/p>\n
