May 25 (Reuters) – KPop \u2060band \u2060BTS was celebrated \u2060on Monday with the top award \u200bof artist of the year at the fan-voted \u200cAmerican Music Awards on \u200cMonday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The group also claimed the song \u2060of \u2060the summer honor for the single “Swim” at the ceremony \u200bin Las Vegas, which aired live on CBS and Paramount+.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
BTS prevailed over Taylor Swift, winner of \u200bthe most AMAs of any artist over her \u2060career, \u2060as well as \u2060stars \u200bincluding\u00a0Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny, Harry Styles, Lady Gaga and \u200bothers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Twenty-year-old indie musician \u2060Sombr was named the recipient of best rock\/alternative song for his hit “Back to Friends.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“I wrote this song when I was 19 \u2060and depressed all by myself in my bedroom,” he said \u2060on stage. “So being here, I never would have expected that.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
He later won best rock\/alternative album for his debut album, “I Barely Know Her.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Song of the year\u00a0went to “Golden,” the upbeat tune from the Netflix animated movie “KPop Demon Hunters.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The show opened with BTS, \u2060dressed in all-black outfits and black sunglasses, in a pre-recorded performance of “Hooligan” from the Vegas concert stop on the group’s Arirang Tour.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
