BESOS, the newest restaurant by celebrity Chef Matthew Kenney, is now open at 239 N. Old Woodward Ave. in downtown Birmingham (a few buildings north of W. Maple Road).<\/p>\n
The restaurant, whose name means \u201ckisses\u201d in Spanish, is designed to \u201cmove seamlessly from sunlit lunches to candlelit nights.\u201d<\/p>\n
It brings what the owners describe as a \u201cclean indulgence, whole-food concept,\u201d <\/span>offering one-of-a-<\/span>kind cuisine, craft cocktails, and a signature Detroit-style pizza menu to Birmingham\u2019s dining scene.<\/p>\n Set across 2,000 square feet of a custom-designed interior by architects Ron & Roman, BESOS seats just more than 100 guests throughout its dining room, bar, and outdoor patios extending into the Willits Alley. The space draws on Romanesque architectural cues, including sculptural woodwork, rounded forms, and tactile finishes, balanced against a light, neutral canvas.<\/p>\n BESOS features what is described as a clean and flavorful menu that reflects a \u201ccommitment to exceptional ingredients, globally inspired flavors and thoughtful execution.\u201d<\/p>\n Signature dishes include Kenney\u2019s Heirloom Tomato Lasagna, Heart of Palm Crab Cake, and Coconut Cream Pie. Other dishes include BESOS Quesabirria, MK\u2019s Mac & Cheese, and Steak Frites with Zip sauce.<\/p>\n BESOS collaborates with local culinary artists, including Brittany March, owner of It\u2019sFoodDetroit<\/a>, who designed the craft pizza menu. It also has partnered with Grosse Pointe-based <\/span>Six Vegan Sisters<\/a> on a selection of dessert offerings. Selections include Mary-Kate\u2019s cookies, carrot cake, and more.<\/p>\n \u201cBESOS is about raising the bar for what people expect when they dine out, bringing a level of craft, intention, and innovation that feels fresh to this community,\u201d says Kenney, partner and executive chef of BESOS. \u201cWe saw an opportunity to introduce something distinctly different here, and we could not pass up the chance to share that experience.\u201d<\/p>\n Dana Weeks, founder and partner of BESOS, says, \u201cI\u2019ve followed Matthew\u2019s work for years and made it a priority to visit his restaurants whenever possible while traveling.
