Endings are hard. It\u2019s not just the pressure on TV<\/a> writers to give fans a proper finale, but also the challenges that come with accepting that the finale of a popular show is near. So, as Euphoria<\/em><\/a> fans prepare for the season 3 finale on Sunday, May 31, it doesn\u2019t surprise me that we\u2019re entering the first stage of grief: denial.<\/p>\n

In new promotional material for the Euphoria <\/em>finale, HBO now lists Episode 8 as the season 3 finale\u2014instead of the series finale. Naturally, this means that the door just creaked open for the possibility of season 4. It may have felt insane that Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney actually all returned to star in another season of Euphoria <\/em>this spring. (Especially after what they go through this time around.) But if creator Sam Levinson could write a crazy new season about drug mules and OnlyFans models for his former high schoolers, then I\u2019m sure fan interest could inspire him to come up with even more dangerous, exploitative industries again.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey’re in the real world and the consequences are real,\u201d Levinson told<\/a> Esquire about this season. \u201cThere’s no safety net. I like this Wild West, frontier aspect to it where you can make something of yourself, but you’re going to have to live with the consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n

But when Levinson spoke with Variety <\/em>at the beginning of season 3, he stated<\/a> that he had \u201cno plans\u201d at the time for anything more\u2014even as he admitted that he\u2019s treated \u201cevery season like the last season.\u201d Season 3 feels more like the last season than season 2, however, after Levinson killed off one of the show\u2019s lead characters in gruesome fashion in the penultimate episode.<\/p>\n

Zendaya also wavered question a bit during a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, <\/em>when the talk show host asked if season 3 is the final season. \u201cI think so, yeah,\u201d Zendaya told<\/a> Barrymore. \u201cThat closure is coming.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, closure is hard to come by on Euphoria<\/em>. Levinson\u2019s characters in season 3 have each sunk to new lows and even more desperate situations than ever before. Rue (Zendaya) involves herself in a gang war between a drug dealer and a strip club owner. Cassie (Sweeney) creates an OnlyFans account to pay off her husband\u2019s (Elordi) debts. Maddy (Demie) leaves Hollywood to manage influencers, and Jules (Schafer) leaves art school to become a full-time sugar baby.<\/p>\n

It remains unclear how everything will come to a head in the finale. But according to Levinson, it\u2019ll be unavoidable. As he told Esquire ahead of episode 7, \u201cWhen episode 8 airs, if you’re not watching it live, it\u2019s going to get spoiled for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, viewers may also need to tune in to avoid a second spoiler: the possibility that season 3 isn\u2019t the end.<\/p>\n
