Paul Anthony Kelly almost took the off-ramp on his road to fame.<\/p>\n
The actor, who played\u00a0JFK Jr.<\/a>\u00a0in this year\u2019s smash hit \u201cLove Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette\u201d says he had been auditioning for parts for 13 years before landing the plum role in the FX series and was almost ready to give up on acting career.<\/p>\n But his wife, Syd Widziszewski-Kelly, made sure he stayed the course.<\/p>\n \u201cI remember sitting down with her, and we were just talking and I was like, \u2018You know, I don\u2019t think this is really working. Haven\u2019t hit it yet.\u2019 Thirteen years is a long time,\u201d he said May 26 on TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were thinking about starting a family, so it was like \u2014 what weighs more than the other? But she was like, \u2018No, just stick it out,\u2019 like, \u2018Give it another year.\u2019 And then a couple weeks later, I get this phone call for this, and here we are.\u201d<\/p>\n Kelly said he believes coming to terms with the possibility of not making it as an actor was the moment it all came together for him.<\/p>\n \u201cI think that that\u2019s exactly what happens,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cSometimes, when you let go \u2026\u201d Sheinelle Jones began.<\/p>\n \u201cYup, the universe comes back and says, \u2018Oh, let me get this for you,\u2019\u201d Kelly said.<\/p>\n
