After his Netflix roast inspired tit-for-tat feuding among comedians and backlash from viewers over a joke about George Floyd<\/a>, Kevin Hart\u2019s stance is clear: All is fair in love, war and comedy.<\/p>\n During a Tuesday appearance on \u201cThe Breakfast Club,<\/a>\u201d Hart addressed the controversy stemming from Netflix\u2019s \u201cRoast of Kevin Hart,\u201d which aired earlier this month and included material that shocked viewers. Tony Hinchcliffe<\/a>, who helms the No. 1 live podcast in the world, \u201cKill Tony,\u201d applied his politically incorrect approach to comedy that similarly outraged audiences<\/a> at a 2024 campaign rally for then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. <\/p>\n \u201cThe Black community is so proud of you right now,\u201d he quipped at Hart. \u201cGeorge Floyd is looking up at us all, laughing so hard that he can\u2019t breathe.\u201d<\/p>\n In 2020, Floyd was murdered<\/a> by police Officer Derek Chauvin, who pressed his knee into Floyd\u2019s neck for more than nine minutes, until he died. His last words were \u201cI can\u2019t breathe,\u201d which he said more than 20 times. The killing sparked global unrest and the largest civil rights protest since the 1960s. Hart attended Floyd\u2019s memorial<\/a> and private service in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n \u201cThe George Floyd joke, it wasn\u2019t a tasteful joke to our culture,\u201d Hart told the podcast. \u201cBut our audience that\u2019s watching the roast … you get why they\u2019re doing it, you get why the racial humor is on the table.\u201d<\/p>\n Hart continued that the approach to comedy is nothing new and said, \u201cTony Hinchcliffe arguably had the best set, or one of the best sets.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWould I tell those jokes? No, but do I get why they\u2019re being told? Yes,\u201d Hart said.<\/p>\n Floyd\u2019s brother, Terrence Floyd, spoke with \u201cBreakfast Club\u201d host Loren LoRosa after the roast aired and said<\/a> that he expected Hart to step in and tell Hinchcliffe he\u2019d gone too far. <\/p>\n \u201cWhat do you want me to do? Drag him off?\u201d Hart asked during his appearance on the podcast. \u201cThat\u2019s not what I agreed to do. That\u2019s not the job at hand. The job at hand was to produce a successful roast, which I did.\u201d<\/p>\n Not only has the Netflix roast caused a stir among viewers, but the comedians who participated also have been trading slights in recent weeks. Chelsea Handler didn\u2019t mince words when she offered her take on Hinchcliffe, as well as Shane Gillis<\/a>, who also performed a set during the roast. According to Handler, ex-girlfriends of the controversial comedians slid into her DMs and told her what she said she already knew about them. <\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019re racist,\u201d she said during an appearance on Deon Cole\u2019s \u201cFunny Knowing You\u201d<\/a> podcast. \u201cThat they\u2019re bigots, that they\u2019re sexist, that they think they\u2019re like invincible.\u201d<\/p>\n Handler said that one of Gillis\u2019 jokes about lynching Hart was \u201cworse than rape.\u201d In response, Gillis told the Hollywood Reporter in a statement that Handler was capitalizing on the moment. <\/p>\n On Monday\u2019s episode of \u201cKill Tony,<\/a>\u201d Hinchcliffe responded to Handler\u2019s remarks by calling her \u201ca bit of a c\u2014. \u201c<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
