Alan Cumming has delivered a damning assessment of the United States under President Donald Trump<\/a>, describing it as \u201ca fascist country.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The New York-based actor, longtime LGBTQ+ advocate and host of \u201cThe Traitors\u201d told the Radio Times<\/a> it\u2019s \u201cso great\u201d to currently be spending more time in his native Scotland, where the hit reality competition show is filmed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cTo feel that you\u2019re in a country that has a government aligned with your values is so great. To feel the kindness that I feel around me in Scotland and for it not to be seen as a weakness is so affirming,\u201d said Cumming, who is no stranger to speaking out against Trump and has previously tongue-in-cheek invited<\/a> the president to compete on \u201cTraitors\u201d because \u201che\u2019d have a little chaos and turmoil and treachery.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cOf course, there are kind people in America and I live in New York, which is a different kettle of fish to the rest of America, but the government\u2026\u201d Cumming added. \u201cIt is a fascist country and I\u2019m paying taxes to it. It\u2019s horrible.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Cumming, promoting new TV drama \u201cTip Toe<\/a>,\u201d suggested Trump\u2019s rise to the Oval Office was fueled by a racist backlash to former President Barack Obama<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI love Obama but I do feel he didn\u2019t do us a favour by not letting on about the level of racism and fury he was subjected to,\u201d Cumming said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The actor also called out the nostalgic tone of Trump\u2019s \u201cMake America Great Again\u201d movement. \u201cMake America like the 1950s again, more like,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen Black people would serve you, you could do whatever you liked, and anyone who you didn\u2019t like, you would get the boys to duff them up. That\u2019s what they want.
