Cynthia Erivo<\/strong><\/a> isn’t letting rumors about her friendship with Ariana Grande<\/strong><\/a> bring her down.<\/p>\n

The Tony award winner\u2014who was incredibly close with the “thank u, next” singer during their November 2024 press tour for Wicked<\/em>\u2014cleared the air amid speculation that hers and Grande’s “really conscious decision” to build a relationship was only for show.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that people didn\u2019t really believe that we were actually friends,\u201d Erivo, 39, explained in a Variety<\/em><\/a> interview published May 27. \u201cBut that\u2019s also because people don\u2019t know me very well. If I\u2019m a friend, then I\u2019m a friend. If I\u2019m not, then I\u2019m not.\u201d<\/p>\n

As such, Erivo’s close bond with Grande hasn’t stopped just because their movie franchise came to an end with 2025\u2019s Wicked: For Good<\/em>. In fact, the Broadway star shared that she and the 32-year-old still exchange text messages nearly every day.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very interesting, watching what people\u2019s perception is versus what the reality actually is,\u201d Erivo mused. \u201cLots of psychologists seated at home deciding who we were, what we were going through, what we were doing and why.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
