Caesars Entertainment\u00a0announced Thursday morning<\/a>\u00a0its board had accepted the long-rumored deal for Fertitta Entertainment to acquire the iconic casino brand and all of its properties.<\/p>\n The announcement referred to it as a \u201cdefinitive agreement,\u201d though it is still subject to the approval of\u00a0Caesars Entertainment\u00a0shareholders\u00a0and other standard conditions. The transaction is valued at approximately $17.6 billion, which includes the assumption of approximately $11.9 billion of Caesars\u2019 debt, meaning the cash value of the deal is approximately $5.7 billion.<\/p>\n Golden Nugget owner Tilman Fertitta, who also owns the NBA\u2019s Houston Rockets and was named U.S. ambassador to Italy last May, has been in pursuit of this deal\u00a0since at least February<\/a>, when the\u00a0Financial Times<\/em> was first to report on the possible buyout. Along the way, Fertitta\u00a0reportedly outbid<\/a>\u00a0billionaire investor Carl Icahn\u2019s firm.<\/p>\n Caesars\u2019 Board of Directors approved the transaction and, according to the release, is recommending that Caesars shareholders approve the agreement as well.
