Erik Gruenwedel<\/a><\/p>\n May 28, 2026<\/p>\n \t<\/p>\n Best Buy May 28 reported a 38.1% surge in first-quarter (ended May 2) same-store entertainment sales, compared with a 15.2% decline in the previous-year period.<\/p>\n The entertainment segment, which includes video game hardware and software, books, music CDs and computer software, saw revenue of $577.4 million, or 7% of Best Buy\u2019s domestic revenue of $8.2 billion. That compared with entertainment revenue of $406.3 million on total revenue of $8.1 billion in the previous-year period.<\/p>\n International entertainment same-store sales rose 19.2%, compared with 17.9% decline in the prior year period. Revenue climbed 25% to $48 million, from $38.4 million in the prior-year period.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are delivering on our strategy to strengthen our position in retail as a leading omni-channel destination for technology, while at the same time scaling new profit streams like Best Buy Ads and Marketplace that we expect to provide considerable benefit over time,\u201d CEO Corie Barry said in her last fiscal call.<\/p>\n \u201cWith this momentum, I believe it is the right time to transition the leadership of Best Buy, and step down as CEO [on Oct. 31],\u201d Barry continued. \u201cWith his unmatched experience and focus on the customer, I know Jason Bonfig is the right person to take Best Buy into its next phase.\u201d<\/p>\n Bonfig has spent his entire professional career at Best Buy, starting in 1999 as an inventory analyst. H<\/span>e has served as the company\u2019s senior EVP and chief customer, product, and fulfillment officer.
