Fans of Walt Disney\u2019s<\/a> Carousel of Progress might want to make the trek to the Magic Kingdom in Florida pretty soon: the company said it\u2019s shutting the attraction down in July for a major overhaul. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Currently, the show takes the audience on a tour of a typical American home at different points in the 20th century as an animatronic family shows off the progress of each era. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It starts at the turn of the 20th century, heads to the 1920s, then the late 40s, followed by a jump to the turn of the newest century. That final scene has elements that have aged well \u2015 such as voice-activated appliances \u2015 and some that haven\u2019t, like references to \u201ccar phones\u201d and \u201claser discs\u201d as well as a virtual reality video game with rudimentary graphics. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The company said in a news release<\/a> that the revamped show will begin with an animatronic of Walt Disney himself introducing the attraction he developed for the 1964 World\u2019s Fair in New York. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The company currently has another animatronic of its founder at its \u201cWalt Disney \u2015 A Magical Life<\/a>\u201d attraction at Disneyland in California. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Carousel family will return in the following scenes, which will now be set in the summer 1969 as they gather to watch the moon landing, Halloween of 1985, New Year\u2019s Eve 1999 and a finale \u201cin the distant future, in an out-of-this-world home.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The company released a teaser image of that final scene: <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The company said the revamped attraction will have some callbacks to the one fans know and love, including the song \u201cThere\u2019s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow\u201d playing between scenes as well as Uncle Orville in the bathroom complaining that there\u2019s \u201cno privacy around here.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The final day for the current version of Walt Disney\u2019s Carousel of Progress is set for July 5. The attraction will reopen at some point in 2027. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
