\nimportant to the monarchy. As joint Patrons of The Jockey Club, the
\nKing and Queen have embraced many of the responsibilities
\nassociated with their late predecessor\u2019s role within the sport.<\/p>\n
It is not the first time King Charles has demonstrated that
\ncommitment. In 2024, he attended Epsom to watch his filly Treasure
\ncontest the Oaks, marking his first Derby Festival appearance as
\nmonarch. Although victory proved elusive, his presence was a
\nsignificant moment for racing and a reminder that the royal

\nthe reality of kingship. Unlike his mother for much of her reign,
\nCharles became monarch in his seventies and inherited a demanding

\nhelp ensure that racing maintains a place within royal life beyond
\nthe King and Queen themselves.<\/p>\n
Questions remain about whether younger generations of the Royal
\nFamily will ever embrace racing with the same enthusiasm shown by
\nQueen Elizabeth II. The Prince and Princess of Wales continue to
\nfocus much of their attention on other sporting interests, and it
\nis difficult to imagine any future royal matching the late Queen\u2019s
\nlifelong devotion to the thoroughbred.<\/p>\n
But perhaps that is the wrong comparison.<\/p>\n
No one will ever replace Queen Elizabeth II\u2019s unique
\nrelationship with racing. Her contribution was the product of a
\nlifetime spent immersed in the sport and cannot be replicated.<\/p>\n
The more relevant question is whether the monarchy continues to
\nvalue racing and recognise its importance to British life.<\/p>\n
On Derby Day at Epsom next week, the answer will be visible for
