Happy <\/span>New Music Friday<\/span><\/a>. Below is a list of the top albums and singles out this week. Add these records to a playlist this weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Best of New Music Friday:<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n

<\/p>\n

Danish rock badboys Iceage once dropped albums that made it sound like they were born with visions of weeping and gnashing teeth in their heads, which is crazy considering the band now sounds like the prettiest, danciest, yet (still) deadliest rock group alive. Not enough metaphors for you? For the love of Go\u2013no! <\/span>For Love of Grace & the Hereafter<\/span><\/i>, Iceage\u2019s first album of all new original material in five years, is already up for debate as being the band\u2019s best work. It\u2019s been well worth the wait.<\/span><\/p>\n

On that fateful day of March 11, 2026, rock fans opened social media to see a black image with Iceage\u2019s logo depicted on it. Seconds later, a quick drum fill struck a nerve, and then bending guitar chords were also struck, all before singer Elias Bender R\u00f8nnenfelt\u2019s trademark voice took over this brand new single, \u201cStar.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMow \u2019em down in spite, sway the scythe \/\/ Eating cyanide, wear \u2019em like a surgical gown,\u201d R\u00f8nnenfelt sang, before two quick claps carried this lyrically horrific but sonically beautiful sounding track to the next part of its first verse. \u201cWith a pint of lead in my head, out amongst the dead \/\/ Loving that I long lost the count,\u201d our protagonist added, in case it wasn\u2019t clear the band would rather be six feet under than anywhere else.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That outstanding lead track from the group wasn\u2019t all they had up their sleeves. They also shared the songs \u201cEmber\u201d and \u201cThe Weak,\u201d which repeatedly shouted the band\u2019s apparent collective belief that \u201clife is for, life is for, life is for the weak,\u201d insinuating that the strongest people who have ever lived are dead, or should die. This is not an endorsement of the band\u2019s ideology, but it is a chance to understand what Iceage have always been about. Suffering, death, nothing good, it\u2019s all on the table when asking Iceage the question \u201cwhat do you desire?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The band\u2019s first few albums are filled with punky riffs with these sorts of lyrics on top of them. But the band\u2019s magnificent run of avant-garde, piano, banjo and fuzzy bass laden records dare to plug these types of fiendish and hellish lyrics right into listeners\u2019 ears. It\u2019s one of the boldest moves a band can make, but fuck single-action bold moves. Iceage has made their whole career out of making endless ones.<\/span><\/p>\n

Plowing into the Field of Love<\/span><\/i> was a major switch up. <\/span>Beyondless<\/span><\/i> was a rock fan\u2019s dream. <\/span>Seek Shelter<\/span><\/i> was a dive headfirst into dreamland. <\/span>For Love of Grace & the Hereafter<\/span><\/i> is a diamond mine, with outstanding songs like \u201cMatch Head Girl\u201d and \u201cTender Blades\u201d plus just about everything else.<\/span><\/p>\n
