We\u2019re going on four months since Nancy Guthrie, Savannah Guthrie\u2019s mom<\/a>, disappeared, and we still have very few answers. We know she was taken from her house sometime between the night of January 31 and February 1 by a masked assailant, but we don\u2019t know what happened to her, and no suspect or motive has been publicly identified<\/a>.<\/p>\n But the search for Guthrie<\/a> has brought about some surprising findings, including a human skeleton near her house. In an interview with Fox News Digital<\/a>, James T. Watson, an anthropologist at the University of Arizona, explained that a full skeleton was found, not the single bone that had been originally reported. The skeleton is believed to belong to someone who was buried between several hundred and 1,000 years ago, he said.<\/p>\n \u201cWhether it is a thousand years old or 50 years old, these are human remains,\u201d Watson confirmed. A local YouTuber named AJ Wysopal discovered an exposed bone while conducting his own search for Guthrie. When authorities arrived, they quickly established that the remains were indeed human, but that they were not connected to the Guthrie abduction.<\/p>\n Reports indicate there\u2019s a known archaeological site nearby, with Watson confirming that ceramic artifacts found at the scene are consistent with examples found there. \u201cAll of that contextual evidence allowed me to be pretty sure that this individual was in fact Native American,\u201d he said. \u201cThe ceramics really sort of drove home that point.\u201d<\/p>\n The remains have been transferred to the Tohono O\u2019odham Nation, a Native American tribe with a large reservation just west of Tucson.<\/p>\n According to Watson, the Sonoran Desert\u2019s terrain and new movement on land that hasn\u2019t been touched for centuries can lead to discoveries such as this one. \u201cThe desert there is a pretty harsh environment, and obviously it\u2019s been settled for hundreds, thousands of years,\u201d he told Fox News Digital. \u201cThere are literally probably hundreds of bodies that are discovered every year out in the desert.\u201d<\/p>\n Which still makes it a place worth looking into. \u201c<\/strong>So there [are] a lot of places that an individual could get lost or pass away \u2014 or hide a body,\u201d Watson said. \u201cI think\u2026as people start to poke into some of these crevices that don\u2019t normally get poked into across the desert, they\u2019re likely to find more individuals.\u201d<\/p>\n This comes after Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos<\/a> made clear the case has not gone cold<\/a>. \u201cRight now, I think our focus is on the tips, the leads and the evidence we have in front of us,\u201d he said. \u201cDigitally \u2014 the camera footages as well as biological, the DNA and those types of things.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMy team, I\u2019ve said all along, they\u2019re gonna solve this,\u201d he added. \u201cI fully 100% believe that.<\/p>\n He explained that it\u2019s taking a while because there\u2019s a lot of information to sift through. \u00a0\u201cI know we have DNA that is unknown who the contributor or depositor is, but I think they\u2019re getting closer to finding out who that was,\u201d Nanos told People. \u201cWhen the labs tell us, \u2018Hey, there\u2019s nothing else we can do,\u2019 well, then maybe we\u2019ve got a problem\u2026 we\u2019ve got a cold case\u2026 but right now, the labs aren\u2019t telling us that,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you have the best minds of the country working on problems, I think they\u2019re gonna solve them,\u201d Nanos said. \u201cIt just takes a while.\u201d<\/p>\n The reward for information about\u00a0Nancy Guthrie\u2019s disappearance<\/a>\u00a0stands at over $1 million.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n![\"Savannah](\"https:\/\/stylecaster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Savannah-Guthrie-Mom.jpg?w=300&h=168&crop=1\")
