Themis Street will be closed for the celebration. As for parking, Muckerman said there will be a shuttle running from the Show-Me Center parking lot, and the public is invited to park in other lots in the area, including Southeast Missouri State University parking lots and municipal parking lots, and the Old Town Cape market lot will also be open for parking.<\/span><\/p>\n The committee is encouraging people to not only enjoy Riverfest, but also participate in other community events happening in Cape Girardeau throughout the day, such as the Riverfront Market that morning, and Fourth at the Fort! at Fort D Historic Site.<\/span><\/p>\n Attendees are also encouraged to patronize local businesses, which was one of the goals of moving the fireworks and hosting the event downtown, Muckerman said.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cBeing able to celebrate Independence Day along the Mississippi River in historic downtown Cape is something that\u2019s really meaningful to our overall committee,” she said, “and we hope that it will generate a lot of excitement about the celebration itself, and that folks will just have a great time in a celebration of patriotism, community, and local pride.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n As for whether this will be an annual Fourth of July celebration at the river, Muckerman said time will tell.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cBased upon community response, volunteer-returning interest, then it is still yet to be determined if this will be repeated,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd also, just marking America\u2019s 250th, we wanted to celebrate in a grander fashion, and also just leverage the riverfront.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The volunteer committee is working in conjunction with the City of Cape Girardeau, Old Town Cape, and Visit Cape to promote the event.<\/span><\/p>\n
