Published: May 29, 2026<\/p>\n By Movieguide\u00ae Staff<\/p>\n Filmmaker Andy Erwin compared today\u2019s faith-based movies and TV shows to a modern-day \u201cRomans Road,\u201d bringing the gospel to the rest of the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe Romans Road was something that was established in the days of Jesus for commerce, for war,\u201d Erwin <\/span>said<\/span><\/a>, via Crosswalk. \u201cIt would be easy for people in that society to say \u2018these things were used for greed or for power, and that there\u2019s something not spiritual about it\u2019 \u2013 but the thing that allowed the gospel to explode around the world by this group of fishermen was that all the roads were already laid.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Today, the Romans Road are the movies and TV shows Christian creators bring to audiences around the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201c[Studios] have output deals that are already laid around the world, just like the Romans Road, they\u2019re there in place,\u201d Erwin explained. \u201cAnd so when you put out a film here, and it does well domestically, it goes on autopilot around the world \u2013 the gospel goes out. So there\u2019s places like in China or in Saudi Arabia that I\u2019d be arrested in the streets if I preach that message, but in the theater they\u2019re paying for us to bring it there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Related: Jon and Andy Erwin: \u2018God\u2019s Working in Hollywood Right Now\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n He added, \u201cIf you prove that it can make money, [studios] will let you do anything you want.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Erwin, who works leads Kingdom Story Company, spoke to Family Theater Productions in 2024 about his commitment to making faith-based content.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI grew up in a Christian environment, but I always thought Christianity was a system of doing good and being a good person. It wasn\u2019t until I came home after my second year of college that I had really changed,\u201d he <\/span>explained<\/span><\/a>. \u201cGod brought me to a place where I recognized that I didn\u2019t know what to do with the person I wanted to be, versus the person I was. I didn\u2019t know how to find redemption.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n He continued, \u201cSo God showed me. He gave me a dream: What if we make movies?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n In an interview at the 2023 K-LOVE Fan Awards, Erwin\u2019s brother, Jon Erwin, who leads Wonder Project, <\/span>shared<\/span><\/a>, \u201cThere is a revolution and renaissance of Christianity in Hollywood right now, all over the industry. I\u2019m just grateful that we get to play a small role. But God is just working in every studio outside the system inside the system. It\u2019s an uprising, and it\u2019s fun to be a part of it. So I think you\u2019re gonna see more and more of the films as they get bigger and better.
