Ward, a member of the reception committee. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The royal visitors were escorted to waiting automobiles to begin their hasty trip to Old Swedes Church. &#8230;<\/p>\n<partner-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" class=\"spacer-large\" placement=\"native-article_link\" sizes=\"[[300, 250], [3, 3]]\" min-height=\"250\" fluid=\"\" outstream=\"\"\/><cta-atoms-container-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/cta\" class=\"spacer-large\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\">During the trip, the Mayor pointed out the Old Town Hall, the public buildings which were decorated with the American flag and the flag of Sweden, and the William P. Bancroft School.<\/p>\n<p>A crowd estimated at 3,000 persons greeted the city\u2019s guests at the church. Dr. Frederick M. Kirkus, rector of Trinity P.E. Church. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\">Inside, they were met by Bishop Philip Cook of the Episcopal Diocese of Delaware. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>A silver plaque was presented to the Prince bearing an engraving of Old Swedes Church and an inscription commemorating the royal couple\u2019s visit. The plaque\u2019s frame is made of wood from the old church. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Prince Gustavus offered thanks for the warm welcome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am deeply moved by being here at this church and to stand in the place where the first Swedes in this country offered their worship,\u201d he said. \u201cThis day I shall always remember and the memory will always be pleasant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><media-gallery-promo asset-id=\"89605392007\" class=\"column ten-column no-gutter spacer-large\"\/><\/p>\n<p><em>Also from 100 years ago, The Evening Journal, June 1, 1926<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"presto-h2 wp-block-heading\">Holiday automobile traffic heavy<\/h2>\n<p>An average of 12 cars a minute passed Station No. 2 of the State Police on the duPont Boulevard and the Glasgow-Elkton Road during a 12-hour check-up on Memorial Day yesterday.<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"390\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p>In all, 9,101 cars passed the State Police station, according to Superintendent C.C. Reynolds of the State Police.<\/p>\n<p>This was the heaviest traffic State Police have had to handle since last July 5, when 9,221 cars were counted in a 12-hour check-up\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>Although there were several accidents, none were serious.<\/p>\n<p class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\">State Police kept the heavy volume of traffic moving fast.
