Charli xcx\u2019s new era is officially upon us.<\/p>\n
The \u201cBrat\u201d singer revealed on Monday that her seventh studio album is titled \u201cMusic, Fashion, Film\u201d and releases July 24. Charli surprise announced the album by posting its cover on Instagram, featuring a black-and-white photo of John Cale, Marc Jacobs and Martin Scorsese to represent each aspect of the title.<\/p>\n
More from Variety<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cMy new album Music, Fashion, Film is out july 24th,\u201d Charli wrote in the caption. \u201c11 songs, 30 minutes, 5 seconds. available to pre order now, love you xx.\u201d<\/p>\n Charli has already released two singles from the album, \u201cRock Music\u201d and \u201cSS26.\u201d The title is taken from the lyrics of the latter, where Charli sings: \u201cWe\u2019re walkin\u2019 on a runway that goes straight to hell \/ Nothing\u2019s gonna save us, not music, fashion or film.\u201d<\/p>\n The electro-pop artist, who broke through to the mainstream in 2024 with her hit album \u201cBrat,\u201d has teased that her next release will be very different from her signature dance beats and Auto-Tune. In an April cover story with British Vogue<\/a>, Charli said: \u201cFor me, it\u2019s fun to flip the form. We know there\u2019s gonna be people who are bothered by it, but that\u2019s fine.\u201d<\/p>\n Indeed, her first single \u201cRock Music\u201d divided opinion, with fans and critics arguing over the new sound \u2014 and whether or not it\u2019s actually rock \u2018n\u2019 roll.<\/p>\n \u201cThe tone of the tune leans more electronic than guitar-based, but not to the extent that the title actually seems like a lie,\u201d Variety<\/em>\u2018s chief music critic Chris Willman wrote in an analysis<\/a> of the track. \u201cThe most immediate debate, actually, is not so much about whether the song is rock as whether it is truly meant as a First Single.
