People from all walks of life paid their last respects to Gono Sangeet singer-composer Kamruddin Absar at a mourning ceremony held at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on Monday. Kamruddin Absar died at a hospital in Dhaka Saturday, at the age of 71.<\/p>\n
The programme was organised by the Ganatantrik Sanskritik Oikya. At approximately 10:30am, Kamruddin Absar\u2019s body was brought to the Central Shaheed Minar, where numerous socio-cultural organisations, institutions, and individuals paid their respects by placing wreaths on his coffin.<\/p>\n
Political parties and cultural organisations including Ganantantrik Juktafront, Communist Party of Bangladesh,\u00a0 Socialist Party of Bangladesh, Workers Party of Bangladesh, Biplobi Communist League, Workers\u2019 Party of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi, the Charan Sanskritik Kendra, Samageet, Bibartan Sanskritik Kendra, the Bangladesh Chhatra Union and the Socialist Students\u2019 Front paid tribute to his memory.<\/p>\n
Professor Anu Muhammad, Kamruddin Absar\u2019s son Adnan Mukit, and Dr Harun-or-Rashid addressed the memorial event. Ganatantrik Sanskritik Oikya convener Jamshed Anwar Tapan presided over the program, which was conducted by musical artist Amirun Nuzhat Manisha.<\/p>\n
His Namaj-e-Janaza (funeral prayers) was held at the Dhaka University Central Mosque following the Zuhr prayer. He was laid to rest at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in the evening.<\/p>\n
Absar learnt music from Ustad Gul Mohammad Khan, Ustad Munshi Raisuddin, and Altaf Mahmud. He worked as an assistant in the music and direction department of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation. He was involved with various cultural organisations and people\u2019s movements through Gono Sangeet, including Bangladesh Lekhak Shibir, Kranti, and Sanskriti Mancha. He also formed the musical troupe Srijan.<\/p>\n
May Dibosher Gaan and Banglar Comrade Bondhu were his notable music albums. He received the Samageet Hemanga Biswas Sammanona in 2012.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
