Another Brat summer is upon us. <\/p>\n
Charli XCX announced Monday that her new album, \u201cMusic, Fashion, Film,\u201d drops July 24, and it already looks iconic.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s because the cover art, which Charli shared on Instagram<\/a>, features three icons within their fields. The Velvet Underground\u2019s John Cale represents music, Marc Jacobs stands for fashion and beloved director Martin Scorsese symbolizes film.<\/p>\n \u201cMy new album Music, Fashion, Film is out july 24th,\u201d Charli wrote on Instagram. \u201c11 songs, 30 minutes, 5 seconds. available to pre order now, love you xx.\u201d<\/p>\n She released the first two singles, \u201cRock Music\u201d and \u201cSS26,\u201d in May. The latter, a shorthand for the fashion industry\u2019s current \u201cSpring, Summer \u201826\u201d season, has an accompanying video that features the artist strutting down an X-shaped runway, singing, \u201cWe\u2019re walking on a runway that goes straight to hell \/ Nothing\u2019s gonna save us, not music, fashion or film.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cRock Music,\u201d the album\u2019s first single, was met with mixed reactions from critics and fans. The song telegraphs Charli\u2019s genre switch from electronic pop to the titular rock music, announcing, \u201cI think the dance floor is dead\u201d over heavily distorted guitar.<\/p>\n \u201cIf I\u2019d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad,\u201d Charli told British Vogue<\/u><\/a> in April. \u201cWhat\u2019s interesting for me is to bend the possibilities of what my perspective on [rock music] could be.\u201d She later clarified on Instagram<\/u><\/a>, \u201cI never said i was making a rock album.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMusic, Fashion, Film\u201d is not the artist\u2019s first album in 2026. She released \u201cWuthering Heights<\/u><\/a>,\u201d the soundtrack to Emerald Fennel\u2019s movie of the same name, in February. Cale is featured on \u201cHouse,\u201d the soundtrack album\u2019s lead single.<\/p>\n Charli has added acting and producing to her repertoire in recent years. She produced and played a somewhat fictionalized version of herself in Aidan Zamiri\u2019s mockumentary \u201cThe Moment<\/u><\/a>,\u201d based on the \u201cBrat\u201d album cycle, which Times film critic Amy Nicholson called \u201c \u2018Spinal Tap\u2019 for the era of stan culture.\u201d<\/p>\n She also co-starred in Daniel Goldhaber\u2019s \u201cFaces of Death\u201d remake, released in April, and is set to appear in Gregg Araki\u2019s upcoming erotic comedy \u201cI Want Your Sex\u201d and Cathy Yan\u2019s art-world thriller \u201cThe Gallerist\u201d by year\u2019s end.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve always been really inspired by cinema when making my music, more so than listening to music, to be honest,\u201d Charli told The Times<\/u><\/a> at the Sundance Film Festival in January. \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to be able to be acting, working on projects and writing and producing films.
