Prince William was \u201csick with worry\u201d ahead of the release of Prince Harry and Meghan\u2019s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, according to a new book.<\/p>\n
Author Christopher Anderson claims in his latest book, Kate!: The Courage, Grace, and Power of the Woman Who Will Be Queen<\/i>, the then-Duchess of Cambridge had heard \u201cher husband retching in the bathroom\u201d in the days beforehand, amid concerns over what his estranged brother and sister-in-law might reveal.<\/p>\n
He added that the future King was \u201ctoo distracted to think of food\u201d.<\/p>\n
Given the explosive allegations made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the March 2021 tell-all, William was probably right to be concerned. Among the most shocking was Meghan\u2019s claim that Kate had made her cry during a row over the bridesmaids\u2019 dresses for her royal wedding, that unnamed members of the royal family had raised \u201cconcerns\u201d over their unborn child\u2019s skin colour, that the Palace had disregarded Meghan\u2019s mental health issues, and that a rift did exist between Harry and his brother.<\/p>\n
William was the first royal to publicly address the allegations in the days after the Winfrey interview aired, telling journalists covering a visit to a London school that they are \u201cvery much not a racist family\u201d.<\/p>\n
He was also asked on camera whether he\u2019d been in contact with Harry, to which he responded: \u201cNo, I haven\u2019t spoken to him yet, but I will do.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Duke of Sussex and the Prince of Wales have reportedly not spoken since the late Queen\u2019s funeral in September 2022, with William said to be furious at Harry and Meghan\u2019s media attacks on him and his wife since their royal departure<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, in an updated edition of Valentine Low\u2019s royal book Courtiers<\/i>, released in 2023, he reported that Kate had been instrumental in including the famous \u201crecollections may vary\u201d line in the Palace\u2019s response to the Winfrey interview.<\/p>\n
An initial draft of the statement was reportedly \u201cmuch milder\u201d, but both William and his wife wanted it \u201ctoughened up a bit\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey were both of one mind that we needed something that said that the institution did not accept a lot of what had been said,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe said, \u2018It is really important that you guys come up with the right way of making sure that we are saying that this does not stand.\u2019 She was certainly right behind him on it.\u201d<\/p>\n
In reference to the \u201crecollections may vary\u201d portion, as a source told Low: \u201cIt was Kate who clearly made the point, \u2018History will judge this statement and unless this phrase or a phrase like it is included, everything that they have said will be taken as true.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
