Chyler Leigh<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about one of her biggest Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em> regrets following former costar Eric Dane<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne thing that I\u2019m really bummed about \u2026 was that when [my character] Lexie comes back [in season 17] \u2026 we were filming during COVID, actual COVID, and I was filming Supergirl<\/em> in Vancouver,\u201d Leigh, 44, told TV Insider<\/em><\/a> in an interview shared via Instagram on Sunday, May 31. \u201cI couldn\u2019t go down to be there because I would have had to quarantine two weeks coming back into Vancouver, and we did not have the time for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

After leaving Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em> in 2011, Leigh returned to her role as Dr. Lexie Grey \u2014 the younger half-sister of Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo<\/strong>) \u2014 in a dream sequence cameo during season 17 in 2020. Dane\u2019s character, Dr. Mark Sloan, was also in the scene despite not being in the same filming location as Leigh, who filmed her parts alone with a green screen in Vancouver to avoid the need to quarantine.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf there\u2019s anything that I regret, it would be not having been able to do that [scene] with Dane [in person],\u201d Leigh shared.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMark Sloan found his Grey\u2019s Anatomy person in Lexie Gray. Plastic surgeon Mark (played by Eric Dane) joined Grey\u2019s in 2006\u2019s season 2 as Derek Shepherd\u2019s (Patrick Dempsey) best friend who had an affair with his then-wife. Derek was married to Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) ahead of the show before he found love with Meredith [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Lexie and Mark, whose on-off romance began in season 5, were both involved in a tragic plane crash at the end of season 8. Lexie died in the crash, while Mark later succumbed to his injuries in the season 9 premiere.<\/p>\n

Though Leigh missed the opportunity to reunite with Dane in 2020, she still had fond memories of working closely with the Euphoria<\/em> star.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s one scene where Lexie is kind of choosing between [Jesse Williams<\/strong>\u2019 Jackson Avery] and Mark, and he comes in, and he just gives her this moment where you see Jackson in the background, and she really does have to choose,\u201d Leigh recalled in her interview. \u201cI don\u2019t know what it is about kissing, but it was a really deep moment. And you just kind of see the sparkle leave her eyes, you know? That was so up and down.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added of Dane, \u201cI could pick a million [memories]. He was a wonderful human being.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dane died at age 53<\/a> on February 19 following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tEric Dane died on the 20th anniversary of his first appearance on Grey\u2019s Anatomy. Dane\u2019s loved ones confirmed his death in a statement on Thursday, February 19, following his battle with ALS, noting that the actor \u201cspent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Leigh reacted to the actor\u2019s death<\/a> in a statement to E! News<\/em> at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe last 48 hours have been devastating,\u201d she said. \u201cI never thought I would be using the term \u2018had or was,\u2019 but here we are. And I hate it. Eric had a heart of gold. His humor and, especially, his laugh was infectious. He was a deeply intelligent man who could carry a philosophical conversation for hours even while we were on set. He was an amazing father and loved his girls FIERCELY. Incredibly passionate about his work and the causes he kept close to his heart.\u201d<\/p>\n
