Following the runaway success of YouTuber-turned-director Curry Barker<\/span><\/a>\u2019s horror hit Obsession, another horror film is taking over the internet: A24\u2019s latest release, Backrooms.<\/div>\n

Directed by 20-year-old Kane Parsons, yet another YouTuber, the psychological thriller stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as Clark, a furniture salesman, who finds himself walking through a portal into an unsettling dimension \u2013 the \u201cBackrooms\u201d \u2013 of endless bare office rooms with fluorescent lights and eerie hallways.<\/p>\n

The film\u2019s premise was inspired by Parsons\u2019 viral YouTube miniseries, which was further inspired by a 2019 4Chan post about a fictional empty office space with yellow wallpaper and fluorescent lighting, where one has glitched \u201cout of reality in the wrong areas\u201d.<\/p>\n

The film<\/span><\/a> has already broken records, earning US$118 million worldwide and US$81.4 million in the US. Parsons is A24\u2019s youngest director, and also the youngest filmmaker ever with a movie that opened at No 1 in the domestic box office.<\/div>\n

How did Kane Parsons get into making films?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Parsons was born in June 2005. His father works as a video game programmer while his mother is a therapist, per the Los Angeles Times. Even as a child, Parsons was filming on his parents\u2019 tablets and cellphones. He later learned to use pirated software including Adobe After Effects, and soon became a self-taught expert fluent in the basics of VFX compositing by high school.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
