Why Scott Pelley Was Fired<\/b><\/h2>\n

News broke in June 2026 was let go from CBS and 60 Minutes <\/i>after an alleged verbal altercation with Bilton over his new show leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cYesterday, you hijacked my first meeting with staff to disparage me, my qualifications, and my intentions with remarkable incivility and contempt,\u201d Bilton told Pelley in an email obtained by NBC News. \u201cI welcome a diversity of viewpoints and respectful debate among the team, but this was nothing of the sort.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bilton added, \u201cYesterday\u2019s performative display of hostility \u2014 enacted in front of the staff instead of in a civil, private conversation \u2014 demonstrated that you have no interest in contributing to the future success of the show or approaching my new tenure with a mind open to collaboration and progress.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scott Pelley Has Theories About His Firing<\/b><\/h2>\n

In a June 2026 statement, Pelley claimed he was let go because the new CBS bosses wanted to \u201ccurry a moment of favor\u201d with President Donald Trump <\/b>and his administration. (CBS\u2019 parent company, Paramount, was purchased by Skydance Media in 2025.)<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen stewardship of the program passed to my colleagues and me, our responsibility was to expand energetically into a new age of media technology while preserving the values our audience expects,\u201d Pelley said. \u201cThe waste is heartbreaking.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cLast month, 60 Minutes<\/i> lost its DNA when our entire senior leadership and two of our best on-air correspondents were cruelly fired without cause. Good people were silenced because they stood up for our audience. They stood for fairness against the forces of political bias; they stood for professionalism against chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pelley also claimed that he was told to \u201cinject falsehoods and bias\u201d into a politically sensitive story without verifying the claims.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo date, in every case, I have managed to ignore these instructions or refuse them. Recently, politicians have been invited to choose correspondents for interviews on the broadcast,\u201d Pelley alleged. \u201cGiving politicians control over 60 Minutes<\/i> interviews is not how this is done. Finally, incompetence and unprofessionalism in the new management have wreaked havoc.\u201d<\/p>\n
