Tensions have escalated at CBS in the wake of 60 Minutes<\/em> reporter Scott Pelley<\/strong>\u2019s firing.<\/p>\n

\u201cMorale is terrible throughout the company,\u201d a source exclusively tells Us Weekly<\/em>. \u201cNo one knows what to believe or who is working against them. It has never been like this before. The staff in the newsroom all feel like they cannot trust anyone. How can you work like that?\u201d<\/p>\n

News broke on Tuesday, June 2, that Pelley, 68, was fired from CBS<\/a> and 60 Minutes<\/em> after an alleged verbal altercation with the show\u2019s new executive producer, Nick Bilton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Bilton, 49, reportedly stormed out of a staff meeting after Pelley told him he has \u201cslender\u201d qualifications for his role, also questioning the network\u2019s future plans for the program.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tScott Pelley has responded to CBS editor-in-chief Bari Weiss\u2019 comments about his recent departure from the network. \u201cI am saddened to see the transcript of the CBS News morning editorial meeting,\u201d Pelley, 68, said in a statement shared with The New York Times on Wednesday, June 3. \u201cBari Weiss knows what she said is not [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

According to the New York Times<\/em>, Pelley also privately accused Bari Weiss<\/strong><\/a>, the network\u2019s editor-in-chief, of \u201cmurdering\u201d 60 Minutes<\/em> during the explosive meeting.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou should hear this from me first. We have parted ways with Scott Pelley,\u201d a memo sent to staffers and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> read on Tuesday. \u201cI know how much Scott meant to many of you, and I don\u2019t say this lightly. I made repeated attempts to have direct conversations with him over the weekend, and this afternoon I tried to find common ground. That was not the path Scott chose.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an email to Pelley obtained by NBC News, Bilton told the correspondent that he \u201chijacked my first meeting with staff to disparage me, my qualifications, and my intentions with remarkable incivility and contempt.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pelley broke his silence<\/a> on his firing on Wednesday, June 3.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere has never been anything in America like 60 Minutes<\/em>,\u201d he said in a statement. \u201c60 has been the number-one program in America for decades because our beloved audience finds integrity, quality and humanity in our stories.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pelley then accused CBS\u2019 new owners of bowing to President Donald Trump<\/strong>. (Skydance Media, led by David Ellison<\/strong>, the son of billionaire Larry Ellison<\/strong>, bought CBS parent company Paramount in a merger last year.)<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new owner of our network is casting this legend aside, apparently to curry a moment of favor with the Trump administration,\u201d Pelley alleged in his statement. \u201cThe waste is heartbreaking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pelley wrote in conclusion, \u201cI depart after 37 years at CBS with one emotion \u2014 a heart brimming with gratitude for the men and women of CBS News who encouraged and enriched my work, very often at the risk of their own lives. I pray for a day when those people and their ideals are honored again \u2014 a day when sanity, competence and courage return.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Us<\/em>\u2019 insider, CBS staffers have felt uneasy ever since the merger between Skydance Media and Paramount Global.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the beginning, the general belief has been that the intent is to destroy the news [division] from the inside,\u201d the source says. \u201cInstead of cancelling or dismantling the programs, they want to humiliate them. That\u2019s truly how the staff feels. And they 200 percent believe the same will happen at celebrity.land.\u201d (Paramount Skydance is attempting to merge with celebrity.land\u2019s parent company Warner Brothers Discovery.)<\/p>\n

The insider adds that the alleged narrative that Pelley was \u201cproblematic and disliked\u201d by others at the network is \u201cBS.\u201d<\/p>\n
