Over the past decade or so, the New York singer-songwriter Margaret Glaspy has built up a truly solid catalog, and it just keeps growing. Glaspy released her album Echo The Diamond<\/a><\/em> in 2023, and she followed it up with the 2024 EP The Sun Doesn\u2019t Think<\/a><\/em>. Last year, Glaspy covered Wilco with Norah Jones<\/a> and Nico (or really Jackson Browne) with James Bay<\/a>. Now, Glaspy is ready to announce I Am Both<\/em>, a new album produced by her fellow singer-songwriter Joe Henry. <\/p>\n Glaspy wrote the songs on I Am Both<\/em> longhand and on typewriter after disconnecting from social media. Doesn’t that sound nice? I think that sounds nice. She and Joe Henry recorded the LP with a team of veteran session musicians. Album opener “Michigan” is a lovely conversational ramble that tells a story about an ex who wants to get back together: “You said you didn\u2019t want me\/ Then why did you come all this way?\/ You said you didn\u2019t need me\/ Well who’s standing in whose driveway?”<\/p>\n In a press release, Glaspy says, “I was in Michigan a couple years back and had a really beautiful time and thought about how New Yorkers sometimes fantasize about the countryside as a retreat from the intensity of the city.
