The movie is something of a full-circle moment for the legendary filmmaker in its alien-themed subject matter, which he first tackled nearly 50 years ago in 1977’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind<\/em> and has returned to in movies like 1982’s E.T. the Extra Terrestrial<\/em> and 2005’s War of the Worlds<\/em>.<\/p>\nSpielberg has maintained an efficient pace in making new movies even through his 70s \u2014 Disclosure Day<\/em> will mark his sixth movie as a director since The BFG<\/em> in 2016 \u2014 and in a new interview with the Associated Press<\/a>, he appeared unconcerned with how many more movies he will make before his career ends.<\/p>\n“I never think about how many more I have. Spielberg’s last movie The Fabelmans<\/em> was notably largely autobiographical<\/a>; it was based on his own childhood, his parents’ divorce<\/a> and how he grew interested in making movies in the first place.<\/p>\nAs the AP reported, Spielberg returned to his long-held fascination with the potential for intelligent life outside Earth and was inspired to make Disclosure Day<\/em> by groundbreaking hearings Congress held on unexplained aerial phenomena<\/a> (UAP), the term government organizations now use instead of UFOs, back in 2023.<\/p>\n“It’s my first film that will be considered science fiction that I do not consider to be science fiction. It’s much more reflective of the world as it is evolving and discoveries that are being made as we speak,” he told the outlet.<\/p>\n

Spielberg also told the AP that he next intends to make a Western<\/a>, a genre he has not dealt in during his more than 50 years as a movie director.<\/p>\n“I always feel like parts of the [Indiana Jones<\/em>] adventure movies are like Westerns. Whenever Harrison [Ford] was on a horse, it made me wistful for wanting to direct a full Western, a real Western,” he said.<\/p>\nThe filmmaker also shared that he was “developing a Western” during a March 13 moderated conversation at SXSW in Texas with The Big Picture <\/em>podcast host Sean Fennessey. “It’s going to have horses, and there will be guns, but there will be no tropes,” Spielberg said when asked for any details on his next project. “I can just tell you that.
