It declined to publish the current market valuations collected for each property, insisting that such figures were \u201cprivate\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The report found that while seven <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"ck-custom-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/royal-family\/2026\/03\/21\/prince-edward-subletting-stable-block\/\">members of the Royal family<\/a> occupied five properties leased from the Crown Estate, the leases varied in terms of the down payment required, responsibility for upkeep, and surrender clauses.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024-25, the Royal household generated \u00a33.6m in rental income.<\/p>\n<p>The Crown Estate \u2013 a vast portfolio of land and property \u2013 belongs to the reigning monarch \u201cin right of the crown\u201d but it is not their private property. It is run as an independent business, with profits paid directly to the Treasury. A proportion of the money \u2013 known as the Sovereign Grant \u2013 is then handed to the Royal family to support its official duties.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for the Crown Estate said: \u201cWe welcome the NAO review, which confirms its leases with members of the Royal family were agreed in line with independent, professional advice and open market valuations. We look forward to discussing the report further with the public accounts committee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: \u201cWe are grateful for this report, which is in line with the Royal household\u2019s commitment to transparency.
