A government office has revealed exactly how much compensation
\nAndrew Mountbatten-Windsor could be entitled to after he gave up
\nhis lease on Royal Lodge.<\/p>\n
The former prince surrendered his lease on the thirty room
\nproperty on the Windsor estate earlier this year and now lives on
\nthe Sandringham estate, which is the personal property of his
\nbrother, King Charles.<\/p>\n
As he surrendered the lease before it ran out (it was a 75 year
\ntenancy), he could receive compensation. And the National Audit
\nOffice has now said that figure would be \u00a3301, 967. 66.<\/p>\n
It calculated the amount on the understanding that Andrew gave
\nup the lease on October 25 2025, which is several months before it
\nwas publicly revealed he was quitting the property which he moved
\ninto soon after the death of the Queen Mother who had used it for
\ndecades as one of her homes.<\/p>\n
However, it is unclear whether Andrew will ever be paid any
\ncompensation. The total amount due is decided after the costs of
\nrepairs to the property are calculated. These are known as
\ndilapidation costs and it is understood that they could cancel out
\nany compensation due.<\/p>\n
The figure is revealed into a report on the residential property
\narrangements of the Royal Family which looks at which members live
\nin homes belonging to the Crown Estate and which are living in
\noccupied royal palaes.<\/p>\n
It shows that five properties belonging to Crown Estate are
\nleased by members of the Royal Family. At the time the report was
\ncompiled that included Royal Lodge, leased to former prince,
\nAndrew. The others are Forest Lodge on the Windsor Estate, now
\nleased for 20 years to the Prince and Princess of Wales; Bagshot
\nPark which is leased to the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and
\nThatched House Lodge in Richmond Park which is where Princess
\nAlexandra lives. The fifth property leased is occupied by
\nAlexandra\u2019s daughter, Marina Ogilvy, who lives in a cottage on the
\nWindsor estate.<\/p>\n
Three of the five properties also allow their residents to
\nsublet. The report states that, until 2020, Edward and Sophie
\ngenerated income by renting out the stable block at Bagshot Park.
\nFormer prince, Andrew, also sublet three cottages on the Windsor
\nestate. The amount he received in rent is not known.<\/p>\n
The report also showed that eleven members of the Royal Family
\nlive in residences at either Kensington Palace or St. James\u2019 Palace
\nand occupy these homes at no charge in exchange for carrying out
\nduties.<\/p>\n
The eleven members are The King and Queen, The Prince and
\nPrincess of Wales, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke of
\nKent, The Princess Royal, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and
\nPrincess Alexandra.<\/p>\n
There are also three properties being let to non working members
\nof the Royal Family who typically pay rent set at around 60% of
\nmarket value. The royals living in these properties are Princess
\nBeatrice, Princess Eugenie and Prince and Princess Michael of
\nKent.<\/p>\n
The report was published just after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor
\nwas photographed leaving his home at Sandringham with a severely
\nbruised face. The former prince was pictured driving with a marking
\nthat covered around a quarter of his face. There has been no
\ncomment from him or the Palace about the origin of his injury.<\/p>\n
