Canadian prog metallers Protest The Hero<\/strong> will have their brand new 8-song album \u201cWithin<\/strong>\u201d out on July 17th. This long-awaited follow-up to 2020\u2019s \u201cPalimpsest<\/strong>\u201d features co-production from Derya Nagle<\/strong> (Good Tiger<\/strong>), Milen Petzlet-Sorace<\/strong>, and the band\u2019s own Cameron McLellan<\/strong>. Adam \u201cNolly\u201d Getgood<\/strong> of Periphery<\/strong>, etc. fame took up mixing the record. After some teasing throughout the week on social media, the opening track from that album, \u201cMouthpiece<\/strong>\u201c, is now available to stream below.<\/p>\n Guitarist Tim MacMillar<\/strong> stated of the album, \u201cThis record is us putting our foot down. We\u2019re not interested in participating in that system anymore. We\u2019re focused on the future. And for the first time, it\u2019s completely in our hands.\u201d Further insight on the title and theme of the record from the band read as follows:<\/p>\n \u201cMost people are pretty familiar with hermetic maxim \u2018as above so below\u2019 but the entire passage isn\u2019t quite as well known. \u2018As above so below, as within so without, as the universe so the soul. Obviously, I focused on the middle portion of the quote. \u2018Within<\/strong>\u2018 represents the individual inner world, which is largely defined by our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs. The songs are all representative of how external factors affect our inner world. With that being said it\u2019s probably the most personal stuff we\u2019ve ever released.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Vocalist Rody Walker<\/strong> also dug into this lead single, which is flanked by a music video directed by Troy Maher<\/strong>:<\/p>\n \u201cOn the record focused on the micro, \u2018Mouthpiece<\/strong>\u2018 is the only song from a macro perspective. This is not without reason. It is about the controlling powers that have convinced us that everything needs to be divided into binaries despite the fact that very few things truly exist within them. It describes a world of brilliant colour reduced to black and white by charlatans like podcasters and corporate media.
