Rome’s live music scene this summer offers a packed calendar of open-air concerts ranging from pop and rock to jazz, blues and classical, spread across some of the city’s most spectacular venues.<\/p>\n

The ancient chariot-racing circuit at the foot of the Palatine Hill remains the grandest stage in the city, and this summer it hosts a series of concerts.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Cesare Cremonini<\/strong>\u00a0(6-7 June) kicks off the season at the Circo Massimo with two consecutive nights. One of Italy’s most popular singer-songwriters, the Bologna-born pop star draws large crowds for live shows.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Singer-songwriter\u00a0Riccardo Cocciante<\/strong>\u00a0performs at Circo Massimo on 6 July, followed by Neapolitan rock and blues veteran\u00a0Edoardo Bennato<\/strong>\u00a0(20 July) and\u00a0Patti Smith<\/strong>, the godmother of punk, on 27 July.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Now in its 16th edition, the\u00a0Rock in Roma<\/a>\u00a0festival runs from\u00a09 June to 18 July<\/strong>, spread across the Ippodromo delle Capannelle – which can accommodate 45,000 people – as well as the Circus Maximus and the open-air arena at the Auditorium Parco della Musica. Over the years the festival has welcomed global acts including The Rolling Stones, Guns N’ Roses, and Bruce Springsteen.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The June line-up includes\u00a0The Offspring<\/strong>\u00a0(9 June),\u00a0Counting Crows<\/strong>\u00a0(14 June),\u00a0Negramaro<\/strong>\u00a0(20 June),\u00a0Caparezza<\/strong>\u00a0(26 June) and\u00a0Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals<\/strong>\u00a0(29 June).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n July brings\u00a0Mumford & Sons<\/strong>\u00a0(7 July),\u00a0OneRepublic<\/strong>\u00a0(12 July),\u00a0Marilyn Manson<\/strong>\u00a0(14 July),\u00a0Litfiba<\/strong>\u00a0(16 July) and\u00a0Bluvertigo<\/strong>\u00a0(18 July).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Auditorium Parco della Musica’s open-air Cavea also hosts the broader\u00a0Roma Summer Fest<\/a>, with a varied programme of pop, world music and classical crossover acts across July and August.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The eclectic summer line-up includes\u00a0Kneecap<\/strong>\u00a0(17 June),\u00a0Ludovico Einaudi<\/strong>\u00a0(19-22 June),\u00a0Stefano Bollani All Stars<\/strong>\u00a0(29 June),\u00a0John Legend<\/strong>\u00a0(2 July),\u00a0Anastacia<\/strong>\u00a0(6 July),\u00a0Europe<\/strong>\u00a0(7 July),\u00a0Goran Bregovi\u0107<\/strong>\u00a0(8 July),\u00a0Kool & The Gang<\/strong>\u00a0(21 July),\u00a0Pink Floyd Legend<\/strong>\u00a0(24 July) and\u00a0Gregory Porter<\/strong>\u00a0(25 July).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Max Pezzali<\/strong>, the former frontman of 883 whose catchy anthems defined a generation of Italian teenagers in the 1990s, plays two nights at the Olimpico on 23-24 June.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia presents a series of\u00a0classical concerts at the Basilica of Maxentius<\/a>\u00a0in the Roman Forum\u00a0from\u00a02 to 29 July<\/strong>. The\u00a0programme includes a dance-inflected take on\u00a0Vivaldi’s\u00a0Four Seasons<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(4 July), composer\u00a0Alexandre Desplat<\/strong>\u00a0conducting his best-known film scores (9 July), a\u00a0tribute to Verdi<\/strong>\u00a0(15 July) and a performance of\u00a0Gershwin’s\u00a0Rhapsody in Blue<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(17 July).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The\u00a0Rome Chamber Music Festival\u00a0<\/a>returns to Teatro Argentina (18-21 June), presenting\u00a0a\u00a0programme that blends\u00a0world-class\u00a0chamber music<\/strong>\u00a0with iconic works by American composers.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Classical music concerts\u00a0also take place against the magnificent backdrop of\u00a0the\u00a0Theatre of Marcellus<\/strong>\u00a0as part of the\u00a0Concerti del Tempietto<\/a>\u00a0programme, while the\u00a0Accademia Filarmonica Romana<\/a>\u00a0hosts a\u00a0summer music festival<\/strong>\u00a0in its gardens from 18 June until 2 July.<\/p>\n <\/p>\nRock in Roma<\/strong><\/h3>\n
