{"id":2446073,"date":"2026-06-05T09:20:05","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T09:20:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2446073"},"modified":"2026-06-05T09:20:05","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T09:20:05","slug":"provincetown-film-festival-brings-stars-to-cape-cod-and-4-local-films","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/provincetown-film-festival-brings-stars-to-cape-cod-and-4-local-films\/","title":{"rendered":"Provincetown film festival brings stars to Cape Cod, and 4 local films"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>The <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.provincetownfilm.org\/festival\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.provincetownfilm.org\/festival\/\">28th Annual Provincetown International Film Festival<\/a> runs June 10-14 with more than 80 movies, including documentaries on Provincetown icons: painter Anne Packard and poet Mary Oliver.<\/p>\n<p>There are also films on the Cape Cod commercial fishing fleet; a Provincetown-based exploration of erosion; and \u201cDesperate Living,\u201d the third title in <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/holiday-marketplace\/local-events?_evDiscoveryPath=\/event\/1455081s-in-conversation-with-john-waters\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/holiday-marketplace\/local-events?_evDiscoveryPath=\/event\/1455081s-in-conversation-with-john-waters\">John Waters\u2019<\/a> \u201cnotorious trash trilogy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new biopic \u201cTony,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/story\/entertainment\/movies\/2025\/07\/02\/anthony-bourdain-biopic-tony-filmed-cape-cod-dennis-ma\/84421739007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/story\/entertainment\/movies\/2025\/07\/02\/anthony-bourdain-biopic-tony-filmed-cape-cod-dennis-ma\/84421739007\/\">filmed partly in Provincetown <\/a>restaurants where chef and TV travel host <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/story\/lifestyle\/food\/2026\/05\/16\/anthony-bourdain-parts-unknown-chef-massachusetts-restaurants-cnn-tony-movie\/90094206007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/story\/lifestyle\/food\/2026\/05\/16\/anthony-bourdain-parts-unknown-chef-massachusetts-restaurants-cnn-tony-movie\/90094206007\/\">Anthony Bourdain <\/a>got his start, is in town for a June 12 preview and discussion with director Matt Johnson and actor Dominic Sessa, who plays the young Bourdain.<\/p>\n<p>Sessa is one of a score of celebrities expected in town for the festival, including: Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Hannah Einbinder, Jane Schoenbrun, Marco Calvani, Adam Shankman, John Early, Chlo\u00eb Sevigny, John Waters and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Waters, who helped found the festival in 1999 and was named the first \u201cFilmmaker on the Edge,\u201d will present that award for this year to Ryan Murphy. Murphy is credited with creating many of the shows (\u201cAmerican Horror Story\u201d and \u201cGlee\u201d)\u00a0 and movies (\u201cThe Normal Heart,\u201d \u201cRunning With Scissors,\u201d \u201cEat, Pray, Love\u201d) that helped move queer culture into mainstream American art. Murphy also created and produced the limited series &#8220;<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/story\/entertainment\/2026\/03\/20\/jfk-jr-love-story-series-hyannis-museum-extends-exhibit\/89035967007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/story\/entertainment\/2026\/03\/20\/jfk-jr-love-story-series-hyannis-museum-extends-exhibit\/89035967007\/\">Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. &amp; Carolyn Bessette.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Hollywood Reporter\u2019s chief film critic David Rooney will present the Festival Tribute award to Adan Shankman, director and choreographer of musicals including \u201cHairspray,\u201d \u201cA Walk to Remember\u201d and \u201cThe Wedding Planner.\u201d as well as a\u00a0 \u201cSo You Think You Can Dance?\u201d fixture.<\/p>\n<p>Shankman\u2019s latest film, \u201cStop! That! Train!\u201d will open the film festival. \u201cFamily Movie,\u201d directed by Kevin Bacon, is the closing film.<\/p>\n<p>Fans looking for film with a local touch may want to check out: \u201cAnne Packard: An Artist\u2019s Resolve\u201d about a Provincetown artist who earned international recognition for her expressive seascape paintings while raising five children on her own and \u201cMary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World,\u201d a documentary directed by Sasha Waters and featuring, according to a community announcement,\u00a0 \u201cinterviews with Oliver&#8217;s close friends, including John Waters, never-before-seen personal photos, notebooks, and correspondence from her archive, and recitations of her work by Stephen Colbert, Lucy Dacus, Steve Buscemi, Maria Shriver and Oprah Winfrey,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also up from local filmmakers:\u00a0\u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/story\/entertainment\/movies\/2025\/11\/06\/new-film-cape-cod-fishing-industry-dangers-documentary-hand-holds-line\/87006684007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/story\/entertainment\/movies\/2025\/11\/06\/new-film-cape-cod-fishing-industry-dangers-documentary-hand-holds-line\/87006684007\/\">The Hand That Holds the Line<\/a>: The Incredible Stories of Those Who Fish on Cape Cod,\u201d a documentary from Kim Roderiques and Geoffrey Bassett about Cape Cod\u2019s commercial fisherman, and \u201cErosions,\u201d part documentary and part dance film, this Provincetown-set film explores the inevitability of a changing landscape and people\u2019s response to it.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"presto-h2 wp-block-heading\">How to get Provincetown International Film Festival tickets<\/h2>\n<p>Provincetown International Film Festival passes range from $110 for six movies to $1,500 for an all-access option.
