Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie both have access to homes
\nwithin royal palaces but their rent is paid by their uncle, King
\nCharles.<\/p>\n
The two princesses, who aren\u2019t working members of the Royal
\nFamily, have homes inside palaces which are subject to rent
\npayments. These are set at around 60% of the market rate for the
\nlocal area. However, a new report has revealed that neither
\nBeatrice nor Eugenie actually pay the rent themselves. Instead, it
\nis covered by The King.<\/p>\n
The new investigation, by the National Audit Office, looked at
\nhow properties inside palaces and residences belonging to the Crown
\nEstate are used.<\/p>\n
Princess Beatrice, 37, has lived at an apartment inside St.
\nJames\u2019s Palace, for nearly twenty years. In 2012, it was agreed she
\nwould pay rent on the property which is understood to have four
\nbedrooms. However, the report shows that rent payments are covered
\nby King Charles. Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi,
\nalso have a private home in the Cotswolds.<\/p>\n
Princess Eugenie, 36, rents Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace
\nalthough her payments are also covered by The King. The princess,
\nwho is expecting her third baby, splits her time between London and
\nPortugal where she and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, have a
\nhome.<\/p>\n
The report also found that their father, Andrew
\nMountbatten-Windsor, had been making money by subletting three
\ncottages in the Royal Lodge development where he lived for over
\ntwenty years.<\/p>\n
The former prince surrendered the lease on the property last
\nautumn although he didn\u2019t leave until January this year when he
\nmoved to a home on the Sandringham estate which is privately owned
\nby King Charles III.<\/p>\n
The report could not find out how much Andrew had made in rent
\nwhile subletting.<\/p>\n
It also discovered that Andrew could be due compensation of
\n\u00a3301,000 for giving up his lease early. This will be set against
\nmoney needed for repairs to the property following his departure
\nand it\u2019s believed these will cancel out the compensation.<\/p>\n
The NAO report showed that five working royals live in
\nproperties leased from the Crown Estate. The Prince and Princess of
\nWales have just taken a 20 year leases on Forest Lodge on the
\nWindsor Estate. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh rent Bagshot Park
\nwhile Princess Alexandra, who turns 90 later this year, rents
\nThatched Lodge at Richmond.<\/p>\n
