After a swoosh of lulling strings, Lizzo<\/a> gets to the point.<\/p>\n \u201cHere\u2019s a toast to wasted time and all the energy I put into these people,\u201d she sings on \u201cToast,\u201d the opening track of her new album, \u201cBitch,\u201d out now.<\/p>\n It\u2019s been four years since the candid singer\/songwriter<\/a> born Melissa Jefferson released a new record, and the 12 tracks on her latest showcase a Lizzo who has been through it<\/a>, dug deep and has a few things to say.<\/p>\n She also expands her signature amalgamation of R&B, hip-hop and pop \u2013 as heard on hits \u201cGood As Hell<\/a>,\u201d \u201cTruth Hurts<\/a>\u201d and \u201cAbout Damn Time<\/a>\u201d \u2013 with elements of go-go music (\u201cSexy Ladies,\u201d which samples the classic go-go track \u201cSexy Lady\u201d from Washington, DC, stalwarts UCB<\/a>) and saucy synth-funk (\u201cThat GRRL\u201d).<\/p>\n Lizzo’s cherished flute gets the spotlight on the jazz-flavored \u201cToo Nice,\u201d and she\u2019ll further underscore her love of the instrument with the Sept. 8 release of her first children\u2019s book, \u201cLil Lizzo Meets Sasha B.
